I think its safe to disclose this now...
Back in 96 (just got out of the Army 4yrs in) we moved to AZ.
my first job as a civilian was a Parts Driver(Heavy Duty Diesel and Light Auto Div) for Sanderson Ford in Glendale,AZ.
that dealership was one of the testing grounds for FORDS all new modular engines. our parts truck was to say the least a factory mules. i remember filling out log reports everyday on its performance etc....my personal parts truck was a Single Cab 1996 F150 with what then was the experimental 4.6 DOHC Cobra N/A motor with a 5 speed. oh my that thing was a blast to drive!! I remember having them put a CATERPILLAR 3208 motor in the back bed and the warehouse guy saying im going to kill the truck..it was going down 3 blocks only but that 5 speed 4.6 had no problems haha except the rear tires were sucked in the wheel wells. Hey they told me they wanted to see if that modular motor can do the task!
there was a fleet of 15 trucks/vans that were with experimental motor/trans combos. here are a few that sticks out of my mind..
1996 Extra Cab Dually with a V10 and Ford Supercharger auto
1996 Ford Econoline F250 Van w/ 5.4 Supercharged motor auto
1996 F150 Single Cab 4.6 N/A DOHC Cobra motor with 5 speed
1996 F150 5.4 N/A 5 speed
1996 F250 Quad Cab V10 Supercharged auto
1996 F350 quad Cab 5.4 Supercharged auto
1996 F150 4.6 DOHC Supercharged 5 speed
1996 F150 4.6 SOHC 5 speed (this things shift points was at 8k lol)
1996 Dually quad Cab V10 N/A 5 speed
and "ole girl" (this is the truck they put you in if you break your assigned truck lol)
1995 F150 w/ 302 motor (full compliment of Ford Performance parts) Gt40 heads/E303 cam with modified C4 Trans)
