need more fender clearance >ideas?
I have a E250 with a 350 4x4 under it. 4" lift
I tried to upload pics of the clearance issues, but all I get is "file failed" or something similar.
I havent had trouble uploading before. I use the same camera, put on desktop ,but this time I tried 3 and they wouldnt upload. "file failed"
Anyone hav e any suggestions?
So without the pics:The fenders leading edge, about 1.5 inches away from the tread ( bfg AT 295 75 16 )
Its ok on the Hwy etc but not off road.
With a jack,I jacked the front body up 2 more inches (to the max) and the front fender/tire clearance increases from 1.5 to 2 in. Not enough.
So, it looks like I need to trim the bumper and fender leading end. I already had to fold part of the fender ends up and out of the way,but it needs more if I go off road (I mean mild off road).
Does someone sell something for this? Its probably be alot cheaper and still look good to just cut the fender and the bumper.
I think the heat of sawing the bumper may screw up the chrome finish?
The fender just a repaint.
Then theres always cut the fender ends and install a special bumper,
Any good ideas out there?

Offroading in a Lifted Van? That just sounds all kinds of scary top-heavy...you might try asking in the vans forums, but I know I've never seen any aftermarket fenders for vans, but I also haven't specifically looked for em either. It definitely sounds like its gonna have to be a custom job. Might check with bushwacker, see if they make cut-out flares or something.

Is it possible to space the front bumper out at all? Sounds like some cut-out fender flares would work for you as well. As far as the chrome bumper, I'd be more concerned about the chrome flaking off around the cut. Many cycle shops carry products to remove bluing from exhaust pipes, so discoloration shouldn't be much of an issue.

I just looked up the "Sportsman" vans and the 4x4 lifted ones have removed/trimmed off the lower part and changed bumpers. Thats a little more than Id like to change, but we'll see.
