96 starter solenoid

My 96 F150 stranded me today. When I hit the key I get one click, jumped across the solenoid and still get one click. I think the solenoid is working right. I don't mess with stuff too much anymore but I did look at the starter and it appears to be designed more like the old Gm starters. Almost looks like there is a solenoid on the starter also? Instead of only the hot wire to the case there is at least one other wire going to top of starter. Is this another solenoid? If not, any ideas as to the problem? TIA

what danr1 says. You have a starter relay on the inner fender and a starter solenoid mounted on the starter.
Check that the battery terminals are clean and tight and that the main ground wire to the engine is tight.

If all of the connections are good, try tapping on the starter with a rubber mallet while someone turns the key to start it. Do not hold the key on start for more then a few seconds.

Thanks for the replies.

I got some time today and checked it out. It turned out to be the cable leading to the solenoid on the starter. Wire brushed it off, greased it up and works fine now. Thanks again for the help!
