Known as "Blow by" indicating that your rings are wearing/worn out depending on the severity. Some leakage past the rings is normal. Check to ensure your PCV system is working correctly if so equiped.
You didn't mention year?? I am assuming that it is a different truck than the '78 150 as 292's were not installed in trucks after '64?

If it has oil pressure, drive it. Blow by is not going to increase chances of throwing a rod. If it is an original 64 engine it should have a pcv system. If it is an earlier engine it may have a road draft. Make sure the crankcase ventilation system, either kind, is clean and working right. A couple oil changes may help.

new to the forum and the Y block motor. I just purchased a 61 Galaxie wth a 292 motor. I've done alot of research on the issue i'm having with smoke coming from the D/S rear of the valley pan. I've learned alot but haven't got a fix for it yet. The valley pan has a hole with what looks like a threaded boss inside it. I'm told that this motor had a road tube but that an adapter is available to cover that hole and will accomadate a PCV valve. Any insite would be appreciated
