I bought this truck from my brother with a blown motor. I put a new motor in it only to find out the left bank doesnt fire. I took it to a ford dealer and they told me all signs pointed to timing but after putting new chains on(myself. maybe missed something?) it still does not run on all both banks. Could it be something simple like a cam sensor? I had asked ford about that but they told me no but I have read other threads where the dealer missed things like a sensor. I'm open to any ideas. Thanks.

 

Time to get into the meat of the issue.
Do you know if the coils are firing?
Is there 12 volts standing on the coils and injectors?
Do you know if the injectors are fireing?
What codes show up when looked at from the diagnostic port?
The cam position sensor keys it's output signal to the PCM off the surface of the drivers side cam gear, to time the fuel injection.
Are the cams timed correctly?
Until someone does some diagnostic work, you will never solve the problem.
The dealer tech should have been able to pin point the problem 'if' they wanted to do so. They 'should' be as good as anyone on this forum with more tools to work with.

You can try this check. Turn the Ign switch on to RUN, unplug and check all the Red/LT Green connectors on the coil pacs for 12 volts. If there's only power to the right bank there could be a corroded/broken wire or bad splice (possibly splice S102) in the harness feeding the left coil pacs.

The sensor times the fuel injection for both sides or are there 2 sensors? I only see 1. The cams are timed correctly. The new chains and the service manual made it pretty simple. I will test the coil packs and injectors tomorrow and let you know what I come up with. Thanks.

 

There is need of only one cam postion sensor.
Think about it.
The cams are chain timed to the crank.
The sensor is a reference like the crank sensor.
The injectors follow the same fire order as the ignition.
Only difference is the injection timing is offset early.
The injectors have to inject fuel into the air stream at the time the intake valve is open so that is earlier than ignition that happens just in advance of the peak of compression/fireing stroke after the intake valve has closed.
