Hi I am hoping to get some feedback on this.
I own a 2007 Super Duty 4X4 and my buddy says the locking hub is shot. Here's the symptoms:
* Won't engage 4WD
* When I tap brake at lower speeds I can hear a clunk on and off from drivers side front wheel
* Rattling from same wheel while driving over bumps at city speeds with window open
Is there a chance could be something other than Locking Hub?
Thanks so much

An easy way check for vacuum pump operation is to move the truck's HVAC control from "Defrost" to "Heat" and see if it operates properly.
If it does, check for a vacuum leak in the lines going from the pump to each hub. There are places where it can rub through. The hoses can become disconnected at the hub also.
If your HVAC does not operate, place the HVAC control in "Heat" and feel the pump, it is a diaphragm type pump that vibrates when running.
If the pump is not running, check for voltage at the connector on the vacuum pump. If there is voltage, and the pump does not operate, replace pump.
If there is no voltage present at the connector, check the HVAC fuse and inspect wiring.
If the pump runs and your HVAC controls do not operate when placed from "Defrost" to "Heat", open the glove box and remove it from the dash. Look for rigid vacuum lines that run from behind the HVAC unit up to a distribution valve near the top of the HVAC unit. The connector is clear and the lines are white and black. It may have become disconnected causing a massive vacuum leak making your ESOF hubs inoperative.
If you place the switch in 4x4 and disconnect the hose at the hub, do you feel vacuum? If so, you have a bad hub vacuum o-ring between the unit bearing and the spindle or the lubrication within the hub has dried up, freezing the hub and needs to be cleaned and re lubricated. Search "guzzle hub lube" on google for the directions on how to lube the hubs.
If you do not feel vacuum from both left and right hub hoses, and your HVAC controls are working, you have a leak in one of the hoses or in the connection to the distribution valve for the 4x4 hub control.

Rebuild it or regrease it!!!
I was having a problem with my passenger side auto locker engaged and wouldn't release. Made this video yesterday on the driver's side. Not sure how to start a thread on it, I'm new here. Just wanted to get the info out because I could'nt find anything on the net either. Hope this helps.

Update: I just had a good look without going on the hoist yet - that happens tomorrow - and found the brake caliper is literally hanging off! A bolt had sheared off. Likely never properly tightened at the car lot I bought her from. No bolts in town so had to overnight them. So that will fix the noise I'm hearing for sure. Will properly test 4WD once caliper repaired and update again. Thanks.
