88 ford f250HD lift questions

i know the best way to do this is to buy the kits, I am on a very tight budget and the wife and i are wanting to add a lift so once a month, of that, go play off road. i read some where about adding leafs to front and rear and i was wondering if i could take some leafs off a different truck and add to mine with longer u-bolts. If so, which ones should i try and find. I am a rookie when it comes to suspension lifts but not scared to tackle the job.

wanting to run 36's or 38's
looking to get 4" lift

looking for all help and opinions

In a nutshell, no. You have to drop the center link of the axle in addition to putting on different springs. If you don't the top of the wheels will stick out.

Jumbofordman is referring to the TTB suspension in the front. If you add leafs, the arm is going to pivot downward in an arc and your tire are going to look like this \----/. To correct for this, you need to drop the center section that the TTB arms attach to by the same amount of lift you add to the springs.

ohhhhhh. that would make sense. how can i go about that with out going through a kit??

i know it is best to buy the kit, just seeing if i can do it for less. And i know there is less involved when buying a kit verses making my own

I don't know. I haven't studied the TTB design a whole lot because I'm going to skip the issue all together and do a Dana 60 SAS.
