Tig welding help

I will be repairing fenders, etc. on my 52 F100 using a tig welder.
Which type of tig electrode and size is recommended and what filler rod?
The metal is about .040 in.
Thanks, Bill

Lots of good videos for sale, rent, or free on the web that deal with TIG welding. If you need help at this level then you might want to check out some of these videos...there's a lot to know about TIG before you commit to sheetmetal repair. Good luck...

As a rule of thumb 3/32" tungsten is a good one for alot of welding, for the your fenders you would probably be better off using 1/16" electrode. A general rule of thumb is use filler rod close to electrode size.

Like Charlie said this a special skill and I guess by your question you have not done much of this welding. I highly suggest you practice alot prior to going after your sheetmetal. A real good soure of info is Jody at weldingtipsandtricks.com.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help and ideas. I have done tig but it was nearly 50 years ago. I am pretty good at torch welding but I will practice with the tig a lot first.

similiar thickness/diameter as the material your welding and your in the ballpark, and practice, practice, practice. I love my TIG and now wouldnt consider anything else but it did take some getting used to initially. John
