Cool Trans Fault

My 2005 STX 4x4 was running fine until yesterday, then on my way home I lost all forward power. The odometer displayed TRANS FAULT and the O/D OFF light was blinking. Limped home....
Today I checked the fluid level and it was a little high, so I ciphoned some out. I read a lot of posts about the same problem which lead me to my local autozone to have them put a code reader on it. Unlike all of the other posts, NO codes came up. According to the scanner, my truck is fine. I was hoping to get some kind of "P" code to target the problem, but no such luck. I checked all the fuses and they are fine.
What should I do now? I don't really want to take it to the dealer, fearing that they will automatically say I need a new tranny without checking everything else first.
HELPPPPP?

I got no codes either(2004 Screw 5.4). My 1st gear whine is still there. Dealer said $4000 for one of their "rebuilt" transmissions and the local reputable shop said $1700 for rebuilding what I have now.
Haven't done either. I guess I should have my AAA card ready for that doomsday.

The code readers that AutoZone and parts stores use to read your codes only will do engine codes. Transmission codes, ABS codes, and passive restraint (air bag) codes aren't accessible by the generic code scanners that parts places use. You'll either have to go to a reputable transmission service center or reputable repair shop that has a scan tool that can access these systems to find out whats going on.

If you do end up needing a new/rebuilt, a choice might be something like this,...

4l60e 700r4 4l65e 4l70e performance transmission performabuilt

Stronger with a price between your quotes.

Transmission/transfer seal?

Way too much fluid in the transfer case and not enough in the transmission, I believe the seal/gasket between the two is blown. Does anyone know what ford calls that seal/gasket? I don't want to buy the whole seal/gasket set that they sell, I just want the part that I need. has anyone change this before, how hard is it and what tips do you have?
Thx for all the help.

P0731 and P0732 codes, ahhhhhh!

Shop called today and they got the P0731 and P0732 codes in their scanner. They said they checked the solenoids and all are functioning properly, so it's nothing electrical. It'll be about the same to try and rebuild the trans or replace it. I'm thinking a new transmission. The shop normally deals with Jasper, does anyone have anything bad on Jasper transmissions? Any other suggestions?<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message -->

Jasper has been a leader in remanufactured engines and transmissions for many years. They offer a good warranty and from the the feedback I've gotten over the years back it as well. Jasper would be one of my top choices.
