Where to buy an Airbag Clockspring

Hey all,

First I would like to thank everyone for this tremendous source of information, I stumbled upon it on a random google search and it has already answered a number of my questions just through reading about other's problems.

My question is: I've a 95 Ford with a bad Clockspring and I am looking to replace it myself. My steering wheel has some movement (lateral, up and down) in it and pieces of the clockspring have been falling out, there is no play in the steering and nothing moves south of the clockspring. My reading on the forum indicates this is a pretty easy job, but my issue comes in finding a clockspring, Rock Auto has them but says it will take 18 days to ship. I've called various salvage yards in the area and they all want me to buy an entire column to get the clockspring. Do you all know of anywhere to get a used one? In a previous message I saw that I should order one through one of the parts guys on the forum but can't find who/where they are.

Thanks for any input,

Dan

Check with partsguyed, forum sponsor. OEM parts. You do not want a used one with as many issues as can pop up with these and I would be leary of aftermarket units on a part like this. While you have the column apart I would inspect the shift "tube" if you have an A/T, they are troublesome pot metal pieces as well and cheap to get from Ford.

Fixed the problem, kind of

Thanks for the suggestions, I ended up finding a whole column around here and swapped it out myself for 150 bucks... Steering is working great but still no horn , cruise, or airbag. I am getting the 5-1 Airbag code which has something to do with an intermittent short that could have blown a fuse in the SRS module? Could that explain why the horn and cruise still doesn't work? How difficult is a SRS module replacement or finding the short in the first place?

Thanks for any suggestions,

Dan
