Removing drip edged on cab

Have any of you removed the drip edge and welded the seam? Looking for tips, tricks, warnings, and thoughts on the look. We just welded the cab roof seam for a smooth look. Pictures of the job on the seam.

Never did one yet; but have been told to only cut a little at a time and then spot weld to hold the two skin pieces together to keep from splitting the seams.
