Sounds like you may have either a sensor problem or maybe it's unplugged. The compass in my Mustang did this after I first bought it. And then the dealer plugged it in and it started working.
I'd take it to the dealer and have them take a look, it's probably something simple.
Is the outside temperature supposed to be displayed on the upper-right corner of the dash display? I just have two dashes...
This should be your compass heading. My truck did this when new. I had the dealer monkey around with the module and finally order a new mirror, as this is where the compass is. Before the new mirror came in, it magically started to work. Has been working ever since.
If that location of the display is for the compass heading, where the heck is the outside temp display???
Does anybody has a pic of the compass display? I think mine is out.
The outside temp display shows on the HVAC display, hit the EXT button to show the external temp vs. the inside setting.
I can take a pick of mine in the morning. If you are seeing two dashes... the compass is not working. Another thing to check, go to the compass display mode (ya know, where you choose, temps, gas mileage, etc. etc.) If you are getting the two dashes, the compass display mode should not show your truck heading any direction. (little picture of truck).
