Well, two hours of muttering under my breath and showing all the restraint that I could, I discover my flexplate is warped. There is no wonder that the engine and transmission didn't seem to want to mate. I suppose it is better to discover this now rather than after the engine is in the truck.

I wish I could show, um, more "restraint" sometimes. I prob would have the 8# sledge out to flatten the #%^**%$%& flex plate.

Better now than after it's in the truck.

I'm glad that you like it. I love the wheel, it is just that the gray was darker than I had thought it would be. It looks like Billet Specialties might get a new customer pretty soon. It sounds like the steering wheel is just a small part of your progress lately. How are things coming?

I'm getting there, this week the motor is finally going to the shop. The body is ready for priming. Just not having the time to get it the hard last leg of the journey.

Nearly nine months to the day later, my Dad's truck has an engine in it. I still have to drill a couple of holes in the frame for the transmission support after doing the 302 to 460 swap, but everything is where it should be and nearly completed. Unfortunately, those valve covers that I love so much aren't going to work with the dog house in the way. I really liked those valve covers to. If anyone would like them that has a 429/460 and doesn't have AC, I'll let them go for $140. They really look nice and I wish I could make them work. Anyway, I'm ready to start hooking up the sensors for the digital gauges and reassembling the front end. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly for a while at least. Here are a few pictures of the engine install and one of the valve covers if anyone is interested.

And yes, it was dark when I finally finished. I can say that I got it in by myself though.

And, the valve covers...

Very nice work. It is a shame you can't make the valve covers work, they are sweet looking.

I love this thread and wish you the best of luck with this great truck. I was wondering, what are your plans for the brakes? I notice there is no booster on the master.

Thank you all for your kindness. My father was a very practical man and although I don't think he would have required as much "flash", it isn't to say that it wouldn't have warranted a big grin. As to the power brake situation, I was holding off until I saw how much clearance the valve covers were going to allow. I guess that question has been answered.
Mr. Taterness, my father was also in the Army. He fought in Korea and I think that he would be wanting me to thank you. Thank you sir, for being in Germany, so that I can be home safe with my family. You are appreciated.

Hey Maul I know I am a little opinionated about (Everything) but having been around for a while in the car hobby stuff. I am throwing my two cents on your valve covers. I think the sheet metal stuff is generic (chevy) looking. This looks more appropriate to your build. My opinion and mine only. Love your build regardless..

I don't know about that Rat I have never really minded the sheet medal ones. It says to me look out guy I got some power. But then again you usually see them on some really stacked motors.
