Rustproofing

I live in Michigan, the rust bucket capital of the world! I'm wondering if anyone has a simple, low cost idea for trying to save my Bronco? I'm thinking of trying vegetable oil in a pump-up sprayer?
Any ideas would be great! I just brought it back from AZ so I'm trying to preserve it for as long as possible.
Thanks
Drew

BEFORE the corrosion begins, get the INSIDE of the tailgate lined with some sort of coating that will make the seams impenetrable to moisture. (I had mine rhino-lined...check gallery). If you are willing to get into the rear quarter panels and do the same thing, that's a plus too because the second most common corrosion point is the seam between the inner and outer sheet metal right over the wheel arches. Seal cracks at the end of the rain gutters if there are any. A non-hardening sealer is best because stopping the cracks is impossible without adding gusseting to the B-post. As for any overall corrosion inhibitor, keep the crud off it and before it starts, prevent the corrosion. If that means scraping off surface rust and covering with POR-15 or similar product or blasting the frame and undercoating, then so be it if you want to protect if from a Michigan winter.

What grey said... oh, and please don't use FOOD on your frame, vegetable oil with rot and then it will help the rust in the frame grow faster.

Thank you much.
I'll get into the tight spaces and do my best to protect them, and I won't use veggie oil - good point about it deteriorating!
Thanks

I used to cut linseed oil with a little bit of rubbing alcohol and spray it in the nooks and crannies. The alcohol evaporates leaving just the linseed behind and also lets it wick in all the tight places. Works well.

Do not use veggie oil.

I would clean it up good and put two coats of epoxy primer on it.

I also live in a "rust bucket state" I was lucky enough to buy mine bronco off a body repair specialist so mine is 98% rust free. The real only spot of rust on mine is the bottom of the tail gate...

Over the summer I had rhino lined the bed of mine(threw out the carpet and everything). So I though what the hell Ill rhino line my frame. I havent done it yet I think it may take 2 quarts to do everything thats reachable. It will look cool. But will possibly cost $60+ depending on what brand rhino line you go with..I went with Herculiner to do the bed and love the stuff. Just a thought, Your whole frame will be black with the rubber texture if you use herculiner.

I wouldn't use any liner on the frame, i could end up hiding bolts, cracks and sometimes ever worse... rust.
