E85 guys can a 1982 carbed 300 run E85

Tomorrow I going to look at a 1982 Bronco with the 300 and a 4 speed. This will be a project truck for my 15 year old son and myself and will be his DD this spring when he gets his DL. We hope to do some engine mods like an intake, header and carb and would like to tune it all to run on E85. What problems will I encounter or where would be a good place to start reading? E85 is readily available around here and the fuel savings seems like a good route to go for a teenager.

I am pretty excited about this and the memories it is bringing back to my first truck which was a 79 f150 300 4sp.

I would imagine this could be doable, as many have done similar conversions.

The cost of E85 may be much lower than the cost of gasoline, but the MPG difference will eat up most or all of the savings.

All depending Wulffie...lol....

The E-85 stuff is definantly a horse of a different color, but with a lot of research to see what you need...I see it being done...

Sure it can be done. It would be quite easy to do with an aftermarket carb, like a holley or edelbrock. They just have to be jetted a lot richer, as E85 uses a richer A/FR than gasoline. That's where the MPG drop comes from. Typically, 25-45% lower MPG on E85 vs gasoline. That kinda negates any savings in the lower cost per gallon for E85.

On the other hand, E85 has an octane rating a bit over 100 (can vary due to season) so it makes for a cheap "Go-fast" fuel for a high compression/high boost engine.
