The stock 16" wheels have been used with modern tubeless tires. Several members have done it. You may have to apply a sealer to the inner rim bases to ensure no air leakage around the rivets, but that's about it. Others can speak to the tires they've used and had success with. My value system requires that I suggest you stay with reproduction 6.00 or 6.50 x 16" bias ply tires like were original to your truck. Places like Coker Tire or Universal Tire sell these. If you want to go with radials, keep in mind that your rims are 4.5" wide. This width rim would be spec'd for a 165 mm. or 175 mm. wide tire. Finding a 16" tire that is that narrow might be a task. tire and rims help

I've got 750 / 16 tubles bias ply tires on what I belive are the original rims on a 49 f2 stakebed . No problems . Steering is a lot easier on it than on my 47 pickup which has radials .

The narrower the tire, the easier the steering.

Keep in mind that the 16" F-2 wheels are 6" wide. The F-1 wheels are 4.5" wide. Stu

My brother's 50 F-1 has 215-85R16 tubeless radials and it drives and steers very well.
