1998 5.4 Timing Issue - HELP!!!

Hi all, new to the forum in need of some help.
My truck started running rough, so I replaced the spark plugs and coils thinking that it just needed a tune up.
The problem seems to be getting worse, so I hooked it up to a scanner and found no codes but, the timing was 20% befor top dead center @ idle... and when accelerating the timing actually goes down to about 12 or 13 % before top dead center.
If someone is familiar with this problem any help would be appreciated.
- Thanks

Cruise timing should be around 35.wot timing around 15 to 16. I'm not sure about idle timing .maybe your knock sensor is picking up noise

Thank you for your reply. I will check my repair manual to see if there is a way to check the sensor.
