dump box on a 53 .

a buddy found a 53 dump box complete with controls ,I would imagine it is 6 volt ,just wondering how big a deal is it to mount ,and for you M-H guy's will I have problems with my trans cases or other bit's under there ? I havn't seen it yet ..but he said it looks great ,and is dragging it down island for me.. did they bolt on or weld on ??does the frame need to be reinforced to use it ?? one more part I never figgered I would have or need ..what do you think??

I think dumps are neatfinding one. Just a bit more mystique to these old trucks. I have a '56 350 with a factory Script 9' stake bed that had a lift installed in 1966. My lift is pto driven and the controls are on the dash of the truck. The hydraulic pump and reservoir are mounted inside the frame and about a foot aft of the cab on the driver side. The pto drive runs diagonally across the truck from the right side of the transmission aft to behind the driver side of the cab.
Don't know how yours may be configured but I could power mine with the 12 volt hydraulic pump and eliminate the pto if I wanted to do so. I would bet yours is pto driven. I think the electric driven dumps are fairly late. I've considered electric if I were to go with an OD transmission of some kind. In fact, my hydraulics could be moved many places. If you're still running 6V the hydraulic motor could be changed as all those hydraulic pumps are powered by what look to be starter motors. My truck frame does have some reinforcements added. Don't know about the MH cases, been a long time since I saw one.

I don't know anything yet ,Dan told me it is just the back of the truck cut off at the cab and made into a dump trailer ,,,he say's the box and fenders are in good shape ,,compaired to mine ,,but that won't be hard to do ,I have more rust and bondo then steel..I don't know if will look good or if I should change the truck this much .or just mount the box and sell the dump..my truck is 12 volt . ..what wheels do you have on your truck??

You might have to cut a few inches off the back of the frame to allow for the swing of the box. I suspect my F-4 had a dump bed on it at one time. There are rust scars on top of the frame indicating there was a pivot mount and there is about 6" missing off the end of the frame.
