Water in oil progress

I though I'd update all with my leaky 226 flathead woes.

I resurrected this truck's engine and got water in the oil...so...replace the head gasket, change the oil and filter, no change. Multiple oil changes ensued in the hope that somehow there had been tons of water in the engine when it awoke...

After 4 changes and still getting some water I gave up and bought another 226. During dis-assembly I broke 10 head bolts of this engine.
Now I'm really pi__ed off.

So back to the leaky engine. This time I broke down and dumped a can of stop leak from the local auto parts store. I again changed the oil and filter and TADA! No more leaks...

To review the fix:
2 cases of oil at $100.00
4 filters at $40.00
1 used motor at $200.00
and 1 can of stop leak at $15.00.
The moral of the story I shoulda started with the stop leak!

The good news is that I now can take my time removing the broken head bolts and rebuild the extra motor in my own good time all the while enjoying a running F2!.

The wisdom of starting with simple endures. Had I used that same approach, I would have cleared the fuel line first instead of taking a more roundabout path to the correct starting point.

Im just glad your up and running, besides who hasn't done a little tryll and error repairs. Some are just a little more expensive than others.

Not planning on building a hot rod 226, I like the sound of the motor idling at 450 RPM. This truck was never meant to go fast.
