My 1986 Ford6.9 IDI

Well I've never really done a thread on one of these forum's on any of the trucks I have had so I figured I'd start one. For starters if you haven't reallized already I am kind of a Cummins guy, but I'm not strictly Cummins. I pretty much am a fan of any compression ignition motor. So with that said I'll post a couple pictures up of my new buy and what I am planning to do with it. BTW don't mind my Dodge in the pictures and it's a 1986 F250 6.9 IDI 4spd 4x4. 208k on the clock.

Body wise it's a little rough but not to bad. Plans for it right now are to swap the stock rims off my dodge (if the centers will fit over the hubs) and put them on this truck. It's gonna be the winter DD to get back and forth to class so I can get the head built on my Dodge. The stack is going bye bye. I'm probably going to ditch the bed too and put a flat bed on it if I can find one for a decent price. Possibly a turbo down the road as I usually always have a couple laying around.

I just picked up 3 gallons of Rotella 15w-40 (which is all I run anymore), a Motorcraft oil filter for a 1995 powerstroke (I read on here that you can run one of those on these and gain an extra 1 qt. capacity), 2 gallons of coolant, 2 gallons of distilled water, and a WIX fuel filter. I'm going to order a fuel return line kit as some of the lines are leaking and for the heck of it I'm gonna get 8 new injectors as they are dirt cheap and these one's I was told are original. Those are my plans for the next 2 weekends. I tested the GP's and they all tested within around 1 ohm so I'm not gonna mess with them.

Hope you guys enjoy. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

good luck man!! be careful with the return lines and caps, i would suggest getting viton o-rings...people from here suggested them and there is a big difference.(hopefully someone can chime in the with the correct ones as I dont remember at the moment) I would also suggest picking up some additive for lubricity for the diesel...ULSD isnt the best for these pumps...

You know if anybody runs an ashless 2 stroke oil mix in these things?? I run 2 stroke oil in my 24V for that same reason. I run 1/2 qt. per every 30 gallons. Thanks.

this place gives you 50 for about 6 bucks...(just the o-rings, if the caps are bad go with what dirtydiesel said..)

i am unsure on the 2 cycle mix although i have heard of it, i hear more about Power service diesel kleen/fuel additives-is what i use.

Didn't see a link there. I do have a couple bottles of power service sitting around here somewhere. I was planning on dumping some in with some diesel in the fuel filter when I changed it. I might do a little searching and see what I come up with on the 2 stroke oil. Probably be fine. From what I've seen as long as it isn't common rail injection it will probably be fine to run. Common rail's don't like the 2 stroke oil to much. Thanks.

honestly there is much petroleum based that these motors wont run on...Alot of people suggest dumping diesel kleen in the filter run it for a few minutes leave it sit overnight then drive it a bit. supposed to help clean it out... McMaster-Carr just in case you had an issue with amazon...that should take you right to them.. either way good luck!!

Yeah that was what I was gonna do fill it start it quick and let it sit over night. Also I just ordered those O-rings from that McMaster site. Can't pass up a deal like that haha. Once I source a sending unit for the front tank and get the fuel gauge working I'll probably try running 2 stroke oil as I buy that stuff by the gallon. Thanks.
