Texas Gun Thread

Searched, didn't see one so figured since most of us probably have them, I'd make a thread about em. What have ya got?
My arsenal right now:
Rifles:
Ruger Mini 14-redone by myself
SKS-also custom, redone by me.
Mosin Nagant-stock as of now, but will be turning this in to my primary hunting rifle soon with a completely different set up from what it is now. Bought for $99, great shooting rifle and a great toy for anyone interested.
Winchester 30-30- stock
Remington 30-06 -7600 model real nice looking gun, haven't used much outside the range.
Remington 458 win mag shot this gun once, and unless we're overtaken by elephants...don't plan on shooting it again. was my father in laws. bullets are around $4 per.
Spike Tactical AR-15 .223 ***currently in build process, ordering parts as funds allow. Likely won't be done until sometime next year with holiday and such. Building off the Zombie platform, and adding quite a few goodies.
Browning Citori over/under 12 guage Used for skeet shooting.
Many other 12 guage shotguns from my father in law, most put away in storage now.

Pistols:
Smith & Wesson M&P .45
Glock 23
Glock 19
Glock 19 .22 conversion
Colt Commander .45
a couple of browning .22 pistols for fun

I've gotten rid of all my guns except my wifes 22 Taurus pistol
my favorite was the 45 colt 6 shooter. was only mildy accurate at 30-35 yards but felt right in the grip of your hand. had a rifle (30-30 bolt action Remington CDL) for 3 years and never took it out of the box. I finally just gave it to my dad for his birthday but I think its probably still in the box.
My favorite rifle was the 30-06 savage with the weaver scope. That was so accurate is was almost phenomenal (that or I'm just one hell of a shot LOL) i let a friend of 22 years borrow it and have not talked to him in 4 years now. I'm guessing he pawned it.

Dang Mark. With all those plastic pistols, I'm thinking you should probably just give me that commander. I'll even trade you a plastic pistol for it.

Aw with the Glock haters. I'm a fan of Glocks, and the M&P was given to me, but I love it too, I'd buy one if I didn't have the one I've got now.

Quick question, buds to buds. Do you guys have a specific issue with the "plastic pistol" or is it just a result of the 1980's hysteria that spread due to terrorist carrying the "plastic pistol" on planes/scare tactics by the press? My preferred platform, the 1911, just because if looks could kill...obviously it'd get the job done on that line alone. I'm more a fan of my M&P than Glocks, but I bought the Glocks for a incredibly discounted price, $200/per NIB, and figured why the hell not. They've been great guns for me, no issues at all, and very comfortable for concealed carry.

Im not a Glock hater, used to have one as a duty issued pistol and it worked flawlessly. But I do prefer my Xd over the Glock. I find those that dislike Glocks are because of explosive failure issue not some hype of terrorist on planes. I think that only existed in the media anyway.

The grip angle doesn't feel right to me. I also don't like the feel of the trigger or the DAO. I remember playing with them in the 80's when they were all the rage and was just never that impressed. I've shot them a few times since and just don't care for them. I haven't shot many of the copies, but I figure they're all more or less similar.

But for $200 ea., I would have bought them too. Since I don't run across deals like that, I'll stick to the offerings designed by JMB for the most part.

You may find this interesting...Glocks are the only firearm manufacturer to date that keeps track of the kB!s...aka kabooms...aka explosive malfunctions. Of course they're going to statistically show more kB over any other company, since no other company has investigated the issue. In my experience, it's usually reloaded ammo that causes that problem, and a poorly maintained firearm. Both are easily fixed.

Yeah, I definitely agree on the grip angles and trigger feel. The trigger always felt loose, but there are a few fixes to that issue I've found have really helped. The .25 cent trigger job worked wonders for me, and I replaced the trigger with a smooth trigger instead of the stock trigger.

I thought I heard Glock had issues with earlier versions for the larger calibers. Honestly I never paid much attention to it and have never seen one go boom either. We had lots of them too but all 9mm. They do the job but I do like the xd grip angle better. Supposedly m16/ar16 platforms dont work in sand either :-P

The trigger never bothered me. Once you get used to the reset action it really helps out in multiple round engagements. IMHO the safe action systems are really prefered for a "go to" pistol. Stock though the xd trigger is favored between the two.

Yeah our dept issues 9mm and .40, with the option of supplying your own service weapon so long as the range master approves of it. Through all the qualifying and range days, never have I seen one kB personally, of have I heard of one, but our range Sgt is OCD about gun cleanliness, and will send officers to maintenance school in a heartbeat, multiple times.

I'm more of a "long gun" fan myself. Quite a few side by sides and over and under. Dad is more of the handgun fan. Couple of Glocks for him.
