351C into 1978 F-150

Has anyone gone this route?

I have a 1978 F-150 that weighs 6150 lbs, 15" tires, and currently has a 9" with a 3.73:1 rear gear that I'm thinking about installing a 351C 4V engine with a C6. I drove this truck when it had the 351C 2V, C6 combination in it. It ran great, but since I had just bought my first set of used 4V CC heads, I had to see how they would run. So, I swopped out the heads and the intake leaving the 2V cam in it, and what a huge difference! It had a lot of low end torque and quick response, but seemed to run out of steam at 5000 rpm.

So, how do you think its going to run with the parts listed below?

- 780 cfm Holley (new rebuild with black spring on vacuum sec, pri jet = 72, sec = 76, PV = 12)

- Edlebrock dual-plane aluminum 4V intake

- Newly rebuilt 4V CC heads with new guides, springs/dampners, retainers, single-groove keepers (estimated 10.4:1 compression ratio with flat-tops)

- Hydraulic Cam with .510/.536 lift, 292/302 or 214/224, 73 overlap

- Performance lifters

- Rebuilt short block, crank, rods with new mains, rod, and cam bearings, and rings after dip, magnuflux, and crank polish, new freeze plugs (I was going to have it bored .030, but machine shop said it didn't need it, higher nickel content in block material equates to less block wear)

- C-6 with a performance rebuild, street/strip shift kit, 2700 stall torque converter

with that carb id guess it would run really rich and loose throttle response. most of the time even on a 571 stroker with p51s i wont put on a 780 cfm carb. i usaually get lucky and get a couple cars a year that are "junk" and smoke because of too big a carb and after a oil change and a smaller carb they run great just ask my wife how her once smoking "junk" camaro runs now that it has a stock q jet on it. i would recommend a 600 or 650 holley single feed vac secondary or a quadrajet. or at least talk to a ford engine builder and have some dyno time logged before gas soaking the oil in a new motor.

OK, I'll try out the 600 cfm vacuum secondary Holley I have. Thanks for the input.

i would start with the jets in the 600 in the #80 on both ends just to be on the safe side but if you get some dyno time in you will know for sure
