1980 F600 370-4V - Need more power
I have a F600 with a 370-4V and I need a bit more power rolling through the Sierra mountains. This truck has 76K miles on it and years ago if it were a normal truck I would slap a set of headers on it, beef up the ignition systems to see what I could get and go from there. Problesm none of the stores I called carry either for a 370! am I imissing somthing or is this simply a bad idea? I just want to get a little more HP out of this for climbing the hills.

370 is the same basic motor as the 429/460 car engines, and is the smaller verison of the 429 truck engine.
Best bet would be a 429 truck engine. Headers or not, it's still a 370 with tiny valves and low compression.
A 460 transplant might work, but pilot issues could arise due to the difference in cranks.
If you must, you might check on 460 headers for F series PU and motorhomes. Might work, might not.

none of those trucks with any gas engines had any power !
you could put a 429 in then watch your fuel gauge move more than it does now !
nothing you do to it will pull like a diesel would , they were made back when gas was less than a 1.00 a gallon ! better off putting a dt466 cornbinder engine in it with a better tranny and higher rear end gears !

Swap out to a diesel, or sell it and buy a truck that already has one.
