C6 to Np435 swap, loose end questions.

So I've done my homework, got some money, blocked out some time, and learned to drive a standard......

I am just about to buy an Np435, with bellhousing, clutch, throwout, fork, and even the whole pedal assembly included.

I've looked up just about everything I can think of, but one thing I'm still wondering, is is my starter still going to work?

Let me know, thanks, AleX

Yeah? You really liked it??

I've been hard on the fence for a while. Built myself a niiiiiiiice C6, but then learned of the many joys of a standard.

The starters interchange but the manual & auto versions have different reach for the pinion to flywheel/flexplate distance.
Maybe it can work OK, but they are different.
I'm also doing a C6 to NP435 swap in a couple of weeks - it's been a long time coming.

boggin79ford - Did you notice much rpm drop after the swap, from eliminating the torque converter?

Don't know about rpm difference, but you will notice not having the C6 drawing off up to 50hp.

I've seen a list of figures for various transmissions' power consumption, saying even up to 65hp for the C6, & 15hp for the NP435.

There was debate on exactly how those figures were arrived at......but it's some comparison anyway.

I think the 65hp figure is a big block, drag racing type scenario.

Just a 2mpg gain & manual 'directness' will make me happy

I noticed no difference in mileage or feel in power swapping from the C6 to the T19.

The grossly exaggerated figures for the C6 were from an early 80s Popular Hotrodding article and just eventually caught on like urban myth. Otherwise Chevy 350/400 trans and C4 would have significantly better MPG and drag racing times compared to a C6 equipped vehicle.

And that is nowhere near the case.

Don't forget the driveshafts are different, the NP435 is a lot shorter than the C6

Haven't gotten to the swap yet, hoping to start in the next few days, just trying to get the garage cleaned out for winter.

But Bullitt, I'd heard that alot before I bought this, and even the seller told me that was the case, but my C6 has a 6 inch tailshaft housing, and this 435 has about a 10". The two are actually identical in total length, with the bellhousing, trans, and tailshaft combined, about 26". This is just my sole example, but they seem to be out there, I was pleasantly suprised. This is in a married 4X4 setup.

I could see a 4x4 C6 being the same length as a 4x4 NP435... In 2wd world there is a considerable difference in length.

Ah so that's probably where all the differences come into play, cool, thanks for the info.

Maybe with your 390 there was enough surplus power & torque to not have the C6 affecting performance?

I've just finished a C6 to NP435 swap this afternoon (behind a mild 351W), & I definitely got a gain in acceleration.
I also noticed a lift of 3-4 inches of vacuum climbing local hills at the same speed I normally would.

Too early for mpg figures yet.

What 390? I sold the truck with a 390 but mostly had the dual quad 428.

The point is the article from years ago that eventually everyone took as gospel is flat wrong.

Also consider a guy who switches from a C6 to a race prepped C4 and only gains at most .10 in the quarter mile.
