You need the Edelbrock Steel adapter plate to protect the aluminum from exhaust gasses, and the 3898 gasket. (cut out the cloverleaf web leaving only the front to rear divider)

You need the thin steel spacer to keep the exhaust gas from eating up the top of the manifold.

I linked the instructions.
Scroll down and look at figure 2.
The stack looks like this.

Carb
Thick Black Insulator
Ford EGR plate
Ford EGR gasket
Edelbrock steel shim
Edelbrock 3898 gasket
Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold

Locktite the carb studs with at least 1" sticking out of the manifold.
Use thin washers and Nyloc nuts to hold the carb down.
I like to use high temp aluminum spray paint or Coppercoat on both sides of the steel EGR plate.
(or it will come loose and burn out at the 'ear' of the EGR spacer)
Trust me...

Put some anti-seize on both sides of the EGR plate lower gasket if it's the perforated
metal one like the FelPro 60003 and you intend to reuse it..

DON'T use anti-seize on the pink composite genuine Ford E8TZ-9447-A / CG-536-B Motorcraft under plate gasket.

Hope this helps.

Did you buy it new?
The yellow plated steel plate and gasket should have been in the box.

I don't see a separate part number for the plate.
You could try calling 800-416 8628 and asking if they would send you one.

Thanks, I contacted edelbrock and they are sending me the coprrect parts. Then I can mill up my EGR plate so it matches up to the gasket and this problem shopuld be solved.

You shouldn't need to mill the EGR spacer.
The Metal plate from Edelbrock takes care of the overhang.

Sorry, I didn't take pictures when I had mine off last week.

so you have run into this also I assume...not having to mill the egr plate would be a welcome relief.

My truck has the EGR to meet state emissions.
NOX is too high without it.

My choke was not fully opening for a week and the EGR valve and plate got all tarred up.
I had it all apart last week for a through cleaning.

It's pretty fresh in my mind, so ask away if you have any questions.

I think once you get the 3898 gasket and the steel plate you will see how it all fits.
...As I tried to describe above.

Remember what I said about cutting the right and left web from the 3898 gasket.
If not, it just gets sucked into the engine, and goes???

The carb in your photo looks like a standard square bore, right???
Certainly that gasket is.

If you had a '70's PI or CJ engine with the spread bore carb you might have an issue with this manifold fitting the carb and EGR plate.
I really only know what I've had my hands on...
