#9 fuse reset

My #9 fuse says its for the power point.... is this still the correct fuse to reset the PCM?

Are you looking at the #9 fuse in the fuse box under the hood, on the driver's fender? That's the one you want, not the fuse box under the dash on the driver's side.

#9 fuse reset

I have seen similar post on this subject but have yet to find out why.

Why would you want to reset your PCM???? Just curious.

Thanks
Mike

There are two schools of thought on the subject:
1) A lot of guys do it because it's supposed to force your pcm to "learn" any new parameters of operation. For example, if you were to install a downpipe, resetting the pcm would cause the pcm to make any adjustments necessary for the correct operation of the truck.
2) Mark Kovalsky, who is an engineer at Ford, and a member of this site, informs us that there is no "learning" at all by the pcm when you reset it. He says that the operation of the truck will be the same after resetting the pcm as it was before.
I'm not in a position to try to argue with him, since he obviously knows what he's talking about, but still, I see a difference in how my truck runs after resetting the pcm. Maybe PSD's weren't designed for "learning", but mine just evolved.

Okay, I have a hypertech power programmer III do I need to load the stock settings before I erase the PCM or do I not even need to do it because of the programmer, or even yet are the two not even related.

Thanks
Mike

You're asking a similar question to one I asked when I installed my Diablo Delta chip. I can flip a switch, and go from one program to another, to another. My question at the time was, don't I technically need to reset the pcm every time I flip the switch? If so, how do I make the Dodge in the next lane wait for me to pop the hood, get out, etc.....
The answer that I got, was that flipping the switch is actually changing to another program, not resetting the existing program, so every time you flip the switch, you're resetting the program your selecting. I wouldn't think that it would be necessary for you to reset the pcm at all when installing the programmer.

Ok guys I'm very confused on these fuses under the hood or panel. Under the hood I cannot find the fuse box anywhere but I have found the one under the driver side panel. I cannot find which fuse is for the turn signal for the trailer hookup. It just doesn't say on the cover and have no manual or fuse diagram. can any body help please.

If it is the 2002, you do not have a fuse box under the hood. How in the world did you manage to resurrect a 10 yr old thread?

I do not know the fuse number for that on a 2002. You can get the owners manual free here.
