Ice free windows ideas?

Alright guys and gals, with cold weather comin (some of you already have it) that means snow and icy windows.
I hate the cold, and waking up early. So winter is my least favorite time of the year. Number one reason is icy windows.

Do any of you guys have any tricks to keep the snow and ice off your windows? (Starting up the defroster doesnt count)
I wanna be able to wake up, walk to my truck, and go with minimal cleaning efforts

Any ideas? I was thinking of a sheet or box to cover the windshield but i want something a little nicer than that, and that wont freeze to the truck itself.

Thanks!

Remote start is nice for this time of year. Wish I had it on this truck it was a great option on my old truck.

Id love that. But im a broke college kid. So thats out.
I dont mind a cold truck. I just mind the extra cold of scraping windows.

If you have or install a block heater, then keep it plugged in all night with the heater temp on cold (that keeps the heated rad water inside the engine), then go out and start the engine. Open the heater and put the temp on hot with defrost on high. Go inside and drink a cup of coffee. When you come back out, the windshield will be thawed. This is the college way. When you graduate and make those big bucks, then you can aford an alarm/remote start system after your first paycheck.

Hmm. How hard is an install on that? Does it just go in place of the freeze plug? (5.4L)
And where can i get one?

The factory charge is $35 but I'm not sure what the after market will cost. It's a freeze plug so it isn't going to be easy to install. You could also look at a CATS rad hose insert which actually works faster but your coolant doesn't last as long.

ive seen people put some sort of cover ofer the windshield in the winter. open both doors and put the tails inside then close the doors so it stays in place. Kinda like a reverse solar shade. im not shure what material it was made out of or how effective it was... good luck

I have seen this done also, but if you use the wrong material it will stick to the windshield, it happened to a friend.

Im thinkin about building something like this.

Except way smaller. Just something i can pull the cab under.
My dad parks outside too, and he parks right next to my truck. So he might be down for this. Plus that would be free for me except helping him build it.

do not use cardboard! With my diesels, I barely have any frost when they plugged in, but after a snow fall, always have to brush the snow off, I start the truck then brush the snow off, by the time I'm done brushing snow its ready to go.

I buy the winter blend of windshield cleaner, start truck, turn on defroster wait about 2 minutes then hit the squirters and usually good to go.

That just creates a layer of ice on the wind shield up here, even at only around -10.

As long as the defroster is on, ice stays away. Always works for me.

Yep start driving and you got an icy windshield unless the defrost is warm.
