Engine Oil Temp.

Was wondering what normal oil temps should be empty and towing?

mine usually sits somewhere in the high 180's empty and I've seen it just over 200 when towing. Usually it stays within a few degrees of your coolant temp....although I have seen as much as a 8-10 degree difference when towing.

When the truck is fully at operating temp., the oil will be hotter than the coolant by approx 5 degrees F (give or take a couple degrees).

Usually between 195 and 210* depending on how hard I am driving it. While pulling though, I 've seen as high as 224*, then the fans turns on and the temp drops like a rock.

I have noticed on my truck that my oil temp seems to be MUCH MUCH cooler than you guys are saying.. usually normal temp on my Livewire it says my EOT is around 85-95 all the time.. I will double check that on the way home tonight.. could this just be a faulty EOT sensor.. truck runs great.. mods are all in my signature..

There seems to be some coding issues in a few tuners. My Mini Maxx would tell me my oil temp was 120 degrees at startup after sitting for 2 days. H&S fixed it as soon as it was known. I usually run 198-209 empty. 215 towing. Coolant is always around 195-200, empty or tow. It is even consistent all year around. 33 ambient temp this morning and with winter front I topped at 206 empty for oil and 199 coolant.

Are you sure that your livewire does'nt read in Celcius. 85-95 Celcius would be 185-203 fahrenheit.

EOT runs at 180 Empty and 210 pulling where the WT runs at 190 empty and pulling 215. Yep, WT is higher than EOT. Now the Transmisson runs 180 empty, pulling will reach 215 on longer pulls. Even when ambient 100+ temps, it will run about 3-7 degrees higher. This is using Scangauge II version 4.06.

well that explains everything then... i was gonna say!! this is a load off my shoulders.. i thought there was an issue here.. anyone know if there is a way to get it reprogrammed or if there is a setting to change it to Fahrenheit??

This is after my 40 min drive home last night.. running IDP xtreme street tune.. just normal driving .. most of it sitting in traffic..
