Anyone know where I can find a complete bumper to bumper wiring harness? I've searched painless performance and jcwhitney.

 

Salvage yard. And, depending on the model you are looking for, some of us have taken harnesses out. But, they vary by year to some extent, and it is doubtful any are perfect.

 

This sucks. They have them for jeeps and stupid Chevys.

 

any salvage yard will have one. and its really easy. if they let u pull it it will be just that much easyer to put in. they go for about 300 to 500. can u can get some things that are really hard to find in the harness. are u needing a gas or diesel?

 

Just be aware that 80-86 models, the front harness is one piece that goes from one side to the other and has one ground, inside the truck.

 

What he said, but add that it isn't easy. I have one I pulled from an 85 and it reminded me of pulling a vine out of flowers. It was wound around everything.

I second what Gary said about it being a huge pain to pull. I just pulled the wiring harness from my 86 F150 this last weekend, in preparation for replacement with an American Autowire Universal Wiring Harness. All the stuff behind the dash was a major pain. A number of clips, etc, were really difficult to remove in those cramped quarters. I pulled the steering wheel, instrument cluster, radio, dashpad and finally the drivers side AC duct before I could finally get to the last connector to get it loose. So now I just have to figure out what connectors I have to reuse, and which I can replace with new, and this old rats nest will go in the can. Good luck to you.

 

I do have that harness available for sale, the one out of the 85. It is the main harness and goes from headlight to headlight, but you would need the other small ones that are specific to your application. However, it really does take disassembling the cab to a great extent to get it out/in.

 

Wow, thanks guys! My baby is gas and I think this would be my best investment after the exhaust. If I never posted here I never would have found about salvage yards having them. And is that universal harness work with everything?

 

Yeah, no kidding. Now you guys know why I went to the lengths I am going to on my 86. I am converting to EFI so I can run an E4OD easily on the 460. After looking at my son's 86 F-150 with the 5.0L EFI, I really had to do some serious work to make anything fit the 460, particularly an air filter. I decided to go with a later front end off the parts truck and change the dash also. It since evolved into an even later setup, 92 steering column, 95 dash and currently a 93 front harness, to ultimately become a 95 front harness when it goes to MAF SEFI.

 

I am curious too how that's going to work out for him. If you have to solder and splice in all the original connectors, then it seems it would just as easy to solder and splice in new wire into the old harness and repair it. You would end up with the same thing correct?

 

what the year make and mode of the truck her there is 3 places here. and i know that there is 3 of f250 with 460 and 351w in here. i had to look at them for mine. let me know and i see what i can get u and how cheap

 

Haven't gotten the kit installed yet, as I just got the original pulled. This kit does provide connectors that requires a special crimp tool. I have a friend who has used it, and raved about it.
While you could splice into the old wires, you then have more connectors still with old brittle connectors, and many wires you can't even tell where they go. At least with the American Autowire kit, they wires are labeled every 3 inches. They also provide pretty detailed instructions. I have an 86 f150 XLT lariat 351w

 

I am going to wait and see. Ford uses different connectors than Chevy, Dodge, etc. They all use different connectors, and each truck is optioned different, and even different years used different connectors. So I don't see how it can be "universal" and fit every truck.
