I've been running both E-10 and regular and haven't been able to notice a difference. Slow down to 65 and you'll probably see a 2 mph increase, atleast thats what I've noticed. On my truck, it appears this is the break point at which the fuel mileage begins going down and I attribute this to the 3.73 gears that come with the towing package. The truck I test drove had the 3.55s and was running right at 19-20.5 mpg on the highway at 70 (on the factory meter). Then when I actually bought a different truck I was wondering why it wouldn't do the the same, that is untill I realized the gear ratio difference. The real key is to keep the turbos from spooling up. Right now my overall average over 3,000 miles is hoovering right around 17 mpg. This includes highway, intown, idleing time, and everyday driving. I'm pretty happy as the 5.3L Chevy in my previous Yukon was usually around 14 overall so 17 to me is great especially considering how much nicer everthing else about the truck and the fact that it's heavier and has way more power.

Boones... I have the same truck as you and I am getting the advertised mileage. In fact, I got 23 mpg on the hwy the first day I drove it off the lot. Play around with your settings on your mpg reader. I have mine to average every ten minutes. Have you re-set it at all? Have you hand calculated?

Did anyone here ever own an F-150 with the 4.2L V-6? How about a 300? How about a Ranger with the 4.0L?
The point is (and I'm guilty as charged) we expect the 3.5L achieve enormous mpg's based on Ford's advertisements.
The exact wording in the Ecoboost commercial is "V-8 power with V-6 fuel economy".
Technically Ford is doing that. V-6 and V-8 mpg's aren't really all that different. My '95 4.6L T-bird would easily get 29-30 mpg's hwy while my '91 3.8L T-bird only did the same. My '99 Taurus 3.0L 24V would get about the same.
Both of my mid 80's F-150's with 300's would get at best about 17-18 with 3.08 axles and M4OD transmissions and those trucks were like pigs wallowing in the mud compared to my 2011.
I drive easy around town and my wife does not. When she drives my truck, her average mpg's are lower than mine. Perhaps she's not used to the power as she drives the 4.6L Expy most of the time.
If I say screw the gas and drive like I did when i was young and gas was cheap, I don't get the 17.5-19.5 around town that I normally get. It easily drops to 16.
I'm still happy as hell after coming from my '88 where I got about 12 in town and 16 hwy. I think I hit 18 once. Even if my truck settles to 17 and 20 respectively, I'll still be giddy as hell.

I never, ever put any gas with Ethanol in my truck. I've tested it before in my old Sportrac and the difference in gas mileage was substantial enough to make up for the price difference. I only use 87 octane gas. I have yet to try 93 due to the difference in price.

I have a 2011 Super Crew 4X4 with a 3.55 ratio. I've put 2000 miles on it. Best I've seen is 17 mpg and that was on my way back from Las Vegas to So Cal, averaging about 75mph. A mix of freeway driving and around town, I'm averaging 16. I will admit, it is really tough to keep my foot out of it. I love hearing those turbos spool up.

Put 390 miles on yesterday with about 320 being on the highway with speeds of 70-75. the remaining 70 miles was spent in town loooking a projects (lots of start and stop with idleing and slow driving). Overall average per the truck computer was 17.9 with 20 mph winds, and the outside temp in the 20 degree to 40 degree range. when I filled I was with in .3 gallons of what the computer showed that I used.
One thing I notice is the truck doesn't use hardly any fuel when it's idleing. My V10 sucks fuel idleing just as much as it does driving down the highway!

I just looked at the manual that came with my truck and was really surprised. Ford actulally has about 2 pages on calculating fuel milege and consumption. You may want to look into it..
I have about 900 miles on my truck now, have a 5 hour trip to Chicago on Wednesday so after reading all this I'm curious what I'll be getting with the 3:31 gear. I did take a 300 mile trip and I did everything I could to keep the miles per gallon gauge as high as possible and only got 17....I figured it was cause the motor needed to break in.
