I recently picked up a 1959 ford panel(f100?). I believe these are on the same frame as an F100 truck, if not please tell me. I have been searching through the forums and reading about the different suspension swaps.

I have a few questions I would like to ask.

Is the crown vic front IFS too wide for the 59 panel application.

Other than the ford vs. chevy what are the cons of using the camaro subframe. The width seems pretty close.

I haven't looked into the volare swap yet and I can't afford the Mustang II kits.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, the panel frames are the same as the F100. The CV front isn't too wide if you use negative offset wheels. I just installed a 2005 CV in my '57 panel. With the wheels I am using the outside of tire to outside of tire measured exactly the same. I actually bought a Nova front clip to install in mine first, but the big issue with it is you have to cut the frame off then build new front radiator mounts, etc. As far as the Volare, it's almost as bad as far as cutting up the frame and I've heard some say that parts are getting hard to get. I chose the CV because it's new and the parts will be around longer than I probably will. It's a very easy installation and everything is Factory designed and installed. You just install the unit.

 

There have been many discussions on the benefits of various front end swaps on the forum. You probably can't use the search feature yet since your post count is still too low but you can get around that. Do a Google search for your topic and click on "advanced search". Near the bottom of the page is a blank where it ask for any certain site or domian. Enter www.ford-trucks.com You should be able to find all sorts of dialog on your topics of interest.

 

Negative or positive offset? I thought positive was towards the outside of the wheel and negative toward the inside?

Yes, negative is offset to the inside of the vehicle. Just like the new cars. The late model Mustang wheels work well on these.

 

Just saying, I put a volare in my 59 using Bobs F100's expensive templates...I like it.

 

How close was the width?

 

I think the Volarie will allow you to go lower.

 

It's the same track width.

 

How about the Jaguar front end some guys are using them , i went to look for CV front but the place i went to didnt have any but they had the jaguar pretty cheap $140 bucks for the hole thing
