DIY, Free/Nearly free Mods Thread

Ok. Just picked up a new 2011 F250, and have the itch to "tweak" it, but with XMAS just around the corner, I dont want to spend toooo much. Just ordered a ROLLBAK cover from selling an AR15. But now im looking for some small ideas that wont break the bank.

So I figured, everyone has been in this boat before, an itch to change something, but dont want to spend a ton of $$$.

So lets have at it, those of you who have done some clever DIY mods, free, or nearly free.. lets use this thread to post them up.

Big or small, share em all!

Welcome my friend and congrats on the new truck!

I've done a few little things so far:

1) Line-X bedliner
2) Bedrug bed mat
3) Undercover hard tonneau

Things on the list but not done yet:

1) Headlight upgrade - not sure what yet but something a little brighter.
2) Headrest DVD Players
3) OEM Bed extender
4) If I don't do the Headrest DVD players, I'm going to swap in the 4-way adjustable headrests from a 2012 Super Duty.
5) Some kind of in-bed toolbox that fits under the tonneau so I can keep my gear, fuel additive, and a jug of DEF.

What motor?

Zoodad - Free
Maglite Mount for drivers seatbelt flashing
DIY Harley Headlights - $15
Custom Emblem Lettering Colors - Free if DIY, $10 if order stickers off eBay
LED Bulbs - $50 roughly to swap all the lights out...much brighter
Sidemarkers - $20 for 6 lights
Tailgate Markers - $13 shipped off eBay

there is more, but I'm drawing a blank for now. I limited myself to $50 and under as a definition of "cheap"

Is that a new motor that I have not seen, 6.4L? I got the 6.2L which is a great motor. Maybe it was just a typo.

The stickers are a nice option and make your truck stand out, there are all different colors with free shipping on eBay. Mudflaps for about $57-Huskys. Window tint for front windows, about $80 at a good shop.

LOL, sometimes my brain works backwards, My Avalanche was a 5.3, so for some reason i always say 6.4 rather than 6.2 haha, i guess its a rounding up thing

Yeah, I priced tint friday, $70, thats coming soon, and I just started a thread earlier today about those stickers lol

Once I swap out my existing wheels/tires with the extra set I got I am going to sand and paint the corroded aluminum to a nice flat black. I suspect the total cost to be <$30 and 3-6 hours.

Not really valid for someone with nice shiny wheels. But mine are 11 years old and a little dirty.

Existing to be sanded/painted.

New set that were bed lined by previous owner.

They even did the center caps.

Almost free and huge improvement for the older trucks - new 02-04 style headlights from rock auto, they were like 23 bucks a piece. A lot easier than trying to resurface the yellowed out 99-01 frosted ones...

If you're feeling adventurous, 55 bucks for a high/low HID kit from DDM tuning - I think I'm on my 4th one from there, run em on pretty much everything...

Oem 2012 tail light upgrade $44 for two new lights. I went to a truck accessory place were they sell bumpers and utility beds and they just have the truck beds stacked in the back. Little did they know the lights are worth way more than $22 dollars a piece!
