6.7 VS 6.4

lease, ie a flease is the worst possible idea for getting into a vehicle. at the end of the day its way more money. the last lease I did cost me an extra 6 grand over and above just buying the vehicle outright. my dad also lost several thousand on his lease. remember you pay sales tax on EACH lease payment they don't tell you that until you go sign the papers. thats an extra $30 bucks /mo. then if you go to buy the truck out at the end of the lease term, say you are way over on miles or something you have to again pay sales tax on the buyout. I paid sales tax on almost 50k when I leased my '02 dodge, the new cost of the truck was 32k. I could give other reasons its an aweful idea. but its probably more than you wanted to know.

I have 2010 6.4 my best buddy has a 2011 6.7. Trucks are very similar in equipement both lariats. Inside the 6.7 has the sweet LCD in the dash, cooled seats, storage under rear seat instead of the metal tray, and much larger head rests. Inside not much difference. Outside is preference me personally I like my oem square spoke 20's better then his rounded spoke 20's, the grill on the 2011 is very large and I prefer the 2010. Badges are different. Cosmetically the two trucks are very very similar inside and out. Mpg I get 13.4 and he gets 15.2 (we both live in the mountains.
Inside the cab the 6.7 is quiter but man not much with windows up. We have "raced" if you will the 6.4 lost. Surprised me by how small the margins have been.
I have loved the 6.4 had 1 issue which was a vacuum pump leak - fixed.
He has loved his 6.7 has had no issues.
If I were repurchasing I would get the 6.7 for the new technology, increase mpgs, and newer drivetrain but I would not call the 6.4 a bad used purchase.

I bought a 2008 6.4 F250 in May of 07. It ran flawlessly for 3 years including no radiator problems. I had no intention of trading it in, but in June of 2010 we decided to test drive a new 2011 F250 6.7. I was so impressed with the new 6.7s performance, and the high trade offer on the 08 we purchaced a new F250 6.7 on the spot. The biggest difference that I observed was the lack of turbo lag on the 6.7 compared to the 6.4. Also the MPG went from 12.6mpg in town to 18.6 driving the same way in the new 6.7.

I went from the 6.4 to the 6.7 one year ago. I put 50k miles on the '08 and the only issues it had was the new engine at 50k miles and the new fuel system at 98k. Great truck. Sat in the shop for 10 weeks total. After the $10k fuel system rebuild, the fuel mileage went from 15mpg to 10mpg. Great truck. When the intercooler went up in smoke, I thought, wow, what a trouble free beauty this is. $27k in warranty work in one year. What a great truck. You do hear my sarcasm, right?
So today, after putting nearly 60k on the 6.7, there hasn't been any issues yet. Call it luck of the draw or somebody fixing some issues, I vote for the 6.7. The interior is a bit more refined but still similar. What I like is that you don't have to pull the cab to work on the engine. There's just something very disheartening seeing your truck pulled apart so that it could be worked on (the 6.4).
If you do go the 6.4 route (because it is truly a good engine after its faults are fixed), I would delete some obvious parts and tune it. It'll get better mileage and performance numbers.

WOW! thanks for all the feeback guys.Looks like I'm just gonna have to get a 6.7 I've been looking at a couple and I do think they do look better than the 6.4's. I may have to wait a little bit longer to buy a truck, which is a good thing instead of rushing into a deal like I was going to do. Figure my best course of action is just to sell my current truck now and after my I return from my deployment I'll go buy one. my current truck will be 3 model years old by the time I get back and it isn't going to have anywhere close to the value it has now. Thanks again guys!
