clueless - please can anyone help? - Ford 1950's F1 truck

Hello All,

Hope you are having a good day.

Wonder if anyone can help me?

My boyfriend has just purchased a Ford 1950'S F1 truck. I hope I got that right?!

It arrives in the UK from America on Tuesday next week.

Now I want to get him some Christmas gifts based on the truck. Does anyone have any recommendations or websites to visit or selling anything that could be of use to this model? We are not sure on the exact condition yet but I know he wants to possibly add some branding or logo or 50's advert to the truck so perhaps you may know of a book that contains advertising that may help him gain inspiration, I could get him? Or an ornament/mascot that can fit onto the truck? Or special paint for decorating?

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Many thanks

For truck parts, try Classic Haulers F-1 Parts - Home

For literature and original advertisments, ebay is a great source.

Of course, we will need photos of you with the truck when it arrives.

Hello. The best thing you could do is get us a BUNCH of pictures of the truck (interior, exterior, under the hood, bed, tailgate, under the truck, etc.) and we'll help you get started with what he needs. We'll be able to help you identify exactly what year/model he has. If the pictures show a rough truck, I'd highly recommend you buy parts that he will need to get it running, fixed, etc. If it's a completely finished mint truck, we can help you find decoration, etc. Check out the websites for Classic Haulers, Dennis Carpenter, Mac's Auto Parts, LMC truck, to name a few.

Welcome to the forum. You've found the best source of information on the internet. A shop manual and parts book would be excellent gifts. They would show him what he actually has and how it functions. The add ons come later. JMO. And as mentioned, lots of pictures in his album.

Welcome LittleMissy

Ray is spot on - the shop manual is the the single most helpful initial purchase. You can find them on ebay or from the parts houses (LMC Truck, Macs, Obsolete Auto Parts). You don't need to know the exact model and need only to be within a range of model years.

Enjoy

Hello! Many thanks.

I am from surrey but work in london.

I've never been to scotland sadly, but plan to in the near future.

One day to go until the truck arrives and my camera is at the ready!

Scanned from the 1964 edition (final printing) of the 1948/56 Ford Truck Parts Catalog, but...

This parts catalog does not include 1948/52 body parts. There is a separate catalog: 1944/52 Ford Passenger Car/Truck Body Parts Catalog.

Reprinted by faxonautolit.com who also has original and reprinted shop manuals. Owners manuals, sales/accessory brochures, other paper emphemera that silverfish love to feast on.

The CD for $20.00 (about 13 quid) is a roaring bargain, considering that the alternatives are buying tattered/greasy original paper catalogs on ebay, or Carpenters reprinted paper copy for $200.00!

one nice thing you can do, if he isn't a camera buff, is to take pictures all along the way from arrive to whatever. not just for us. i often wish i had pics of cars that i owned. now we take tons of pics from arrival, breakdown, rebuild, etc. makes for great scrap books or power points. welcome to FTE.

Post some pictures of the truck for us to see. Oh, yeah, there's an unofficial FTE that any new female members have to post pictures along with their trucks.
