Carby upgrade for my 272 Y Block

Hey guys,

I recently took purchase of my 1955 F100 from SC here in Australia. We've done a heap of work to get it on the road and driving and I'm having a ball with it. I want to change (upgrade) the Carby and I was wondering if anyone has done that with the standard Y block manifold? I don't think I need to go to a 4 barrel? I was wanting to go to a 2 barrell or any suggestions??

When I purchased the truck it was advertised as having a 292 - however the enq's I've made on Yblock.com suggest its a 272.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anthony

What kind of intake do you have on it now ? Small base 2/bl , wide base 2/bl , small base 4/bl or wide base 4/bl ? Ford started putting on wide base 2/bl in 1957, there are a lot of Autolite,Motorcraft and Holleys that will work good there. I like the autolite and Motorcraft best , but thats just me. If you have one of the 4/bl intakes and don't plan to remove it you can use an adapter to a 2/bl.__JIMP.S. and welcome to F.T.E.

It has been my experience that the two barrel carbs were on the 272s and the four barrel carbs were on the 292s and the 312s. Have you thought of going to a four barrel 500 cfm Edelbrock? Not too expensive and easy to tune. Jag

Hi, I think that assuming you have a 2 barrel now, that you could go with a 2 barrel holley 500 cfm, you may need an aftermarket adapter plate if you have the smaller 4 bolt pattern. That is what I did on my flathead with a merc. intake and it is bored and stroked to 268 cubic inch. It is probably too much cfm for my motor, but it really rus great! As well, you can go with the carter 2 barrel from dodge 318 trucks, it has the small 4 bolt pattern and is about 350 - 400 cfm if I remember? Your common Autolite 2 barrels will also work with the larger 4 bolt spacing, and if you look on line, there are cfm decoders to help locate the exact size you would want. Hope this helps.
