01 f150 cold air intake humming
#20
Well its a good thing that the new IAC has a lifetime warrenty because after four days i reckon its already gone bad. I beleive the noise is worse now than it was before! Does anyone know of an explanation on why these valves keep acting up with a CAI? I have read a few different posts where users have replaced them two or three times and still have had some problems with them.

I have a 2002 F-150 4.6L 4x4 which I installed a K&N cold air intake kit on many years ago. After the initial install I had the same humming noise and when driving under normal conditions it went away until a day or so after when I would be braking the noise came back. Did everything that yall have done as well and still the humming. Finally my check engine light came on and I had to have the throttle body honed out a bit wider than stock to allow for the increased air flow. The problem was that the air to fuel ratio was off and the throttle body needed to allow for it. This might work for you as well, also you will have to make the changes to the computer as well.

Ok, so your CEL came one, what was your code? Your description of the problem and its solution doesn't make sense. The throttle body does not measure airflow, so changing its size will not alter whether you are rich or lean. Yours description of the probelm and its solution doesn't make sense. Not saying your experience isn't true, just pointing out that your explanation seems very flawed.

Sorry its been so long guys but i finally did get the problem fixed. On the kit that i bought which was a spectre, the outlet off of the main breather tube that runs to the backside of the IAC was too big allowing too much air into that valve causing them to mess up. what i did was take a short piece of 3/8 rubber hose which fit perfectly inside the metal outlet and blacktaped it in there and then put my IAC hose back on it and problem solved! Kind of rigged but it works and no one can see it haha

Would that baffle also cause am unsteady idle at times? I know before sometimes when you let off the gas the truck idled way up and stayed there for a while when that obnoxious humming was going on, and just as soon as the humming stopped the idle returned to normal. Ever since I kindly rigged it haha and put that piece of 3/8 hose in the outlet restricting some flow the trucks been running perfect

I asked about this in the thread titled foghorn.... the symptom is the same and it is comming from the same area. so I think I need to position the iac at the 90 degree angle...... thanks for the input
