Best upgrade parts car?

Best upgrade parts car?
So my head gasket blew in my '67 Econoline Falcon and the [1984~1986] 300ci that was in there is toast.
I don't really have the cash or time for a rebuild right now, so I was thinking about getting another vehicle for the winter while I save up.
I figured I might be able to pick up something with a 300 in it and then swap it out for the blown 300 in my van this spring.
If I'm going down this route, what else should I be thinking about harvesting from this donor vehicle and what kind of rig should I be looking for?
Things that come to mind:
- upgraded distributor [still have points in mine]
- could I do a rack/pinion swap?
- newer steering box?
- disk brakes?
Thanks in advance!
FYI - I'm in the Seattle area.

The only place you'll find the 300 6 cylinder is in Ford trucks. This one is cheap and should get you through the winter.
Alternatively, there's this...
ford 300 ci 6 cylinder engine runs great
Don't even think about a rack and pinion swap with your straight axle Econoline. They are designed for an entirely different suspension system, and are not suited for use on straight axles, no matter who says different. You're mixing apples and oranges trying to make a cherry pie. It won't ever come out right.
