Looking for help to swap from 3 speed to 4 speed.
Sorry if this isn't the correct place to put this as I'm new and I know there's a clutch/trans/differential subforum, But wasn't exactly sure where I should ask this. Anyways..
I have a 1977 F100 with a 300 I6 and a 3 speed on the column. I like the 3 speed but I don't like the RPMs it spins at highway speeds. My friend who parts out/scraps cars just got an early 80s F100 with a 4 speed overdrive transmission (SROD I think?) I just wanted to know what would be involved in swapping this transmission into my truck or if its a bolt in replacement.
Thanks.

Hey MGMG! No responses posted so I figure I'd give ya at least a lead. I have no experience with the 300 so bear with me.
I found two threads with tidbits of info: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...y-options.html
and
SROD or T5 behind Ford straight six??? [Archive] - THE H.A.M.B.
Looks like the SROD is a pseudo Toploader and it can bolt to Windsor blocks but there are differences with the bellhousing.
As far as a swap, there will likely be some dimensional differences in mounting but since the 300 continued in the Bullnose series, then I can make the assumption that it is swappable into a Dent. Be prepared to modify the crossmember(s). I think it is very doable.
That's about all I got. Ya got more Googling to do. When I am stumped, sometimes I'll visit a JY to just to take measurements and pictures.

But I've already done so much. Thanks for those links, They definitely help. I know these transmissions are considered weak but all I really need is the OD for highway use. I guess I need to head down there and take some measurements.
