Yeah, well I happen to like the 80-86 style, but not the 87-91 style, I also like the 92-96 style, and just for the record I am one who happens to like the second gen Courier. To each their own I guess. When I put the '86 front clip on my F250, I know where to take the '89 clip.

[quote=ghanson;10975206] My ultimate dream truck would be an old 70's crew cab, short bed with a modern diesel and running gear (with a stick shift of course).

Hey, I saw that 1979 Ford F-350 body swap project on Powerblock TV.

Chapter member Steve (ChaseTruck 754) is building that very truck:

Thanks! I'll have to check their trucks out! As far as the PoweblockTV one goes; they put it on a Dodge chassis with a cummins so it doesn't count.

Yeah, I'm kinda superficial that way.

Yeah, if I ever get to do a project like that I'll keep the original frame so I can still register it as a 70's truck. I'd definitely beef the frame up a bit though. I figure registering it as a 70's truck will save some cash on insurance, registration, and, if I stay in cali, smog!

Change in the lineup!?

First off: Happy Halloween!

Second: it appears as though my gorgeous dream truck, "Marilyn," has a leaking head gasket. I'm weighing my options but it's looking like I'm going to have to part with my baby. So, what would you all suggest I replace her with?

A. Danger Ranger (manual, 4.0, 4x4)
B. F-1Fiddy (V-8, 4x4)
C. 7.3L Stuper Doodie (as long as its 4x4)

*Good reasons for your choice would be helpful! Thanks!

Dont forget a Ferd F-Teenthousand

Ferd F-teenthousand Truck Commercial (high definition) - YouTube

I loved my F150 3V 5.4L F150
I also love my 7.3L F250

Either one would be a great choice. But the ranger will get you better mileage.

How much does it cost to repair a leaky head gasket? Less dinero than buying one a these:

2012: Last year for the Danger Ranger (that Ford has basically neglected since 1983).

F1 Fiddy (V8 4x4 ): F1 (1948/52 1/2 ton): No such thing as an F1 w/4WD, unless it's a conversion. 1959 was the first year for factory installed 4WD (F100/250 - 1979 F350).

7.3L Stupor Duper 4WD: Expensive to fix when something...sooner or later...usually sooner...fails.

And, don't forget that 1975 and earlier vehicles are smog exempt. No fracatta CA smog tests are required.

@Number, forgive me for not being clearer! "1Fiddy" = "150". Haha.
@A/Ox4, My '99 Expy with the 2v 5.4 was glorious, but the thing is that truck was 2WD and only saw 16-17 on the freeway. Throw in 4WD and I'll be getting way worse mileage than the 6.0L.
@both of you, as for the 7.3L's, its impossible to find one with low miles so, like you said, I'd just be waiting for its problems to appear.

That's why, until I get more research in, the Ranger has the most votes from my shareholders (my wallet, sensible side, and "let's do something stupid" side). Unfotuneatly one of my shareholders is the fact that I'm 6'4" but I seem to remember fitting in a Ranger alright. We'll see!

However, A/Ox4 does have a very valid suggestion with thr "Ferd F-teenthousand!" Hahahaha

6-4? Buy a Ranger Stupor Cab, cuz you won't like the Regular Cab. The cab is cramped, your noggin will be against the back glass, the seat cannot be reclined. There's no room for kiddies, mutts and other fall-der-all.

6-5, 250 lbs: Been there, done that. Drove a 1985 Ranger Regular Cab (Cal Worthington demo)...for 6 months. When the Stupor Cabs (1986) were introduced, the 1985 went bye bye in a NY minute.

My personal vehicles in 1985 were: 1979 F150 2WD Lariat Stupor Cab, 1983 LTD Brougham, 1965 F100 8' Styleside (all bought new), 1962 Bentley Continental Flying Spur, 1939 Packard Stupor 8 sedan, 1934 Packard V12 convertible.

Dont be afraid of a 7.3. The repair bills are usually only expensive if you have the work done yourself, but they are really easy to work on yourself and not all that expensive.

7.3L: That all depends on the condition when it's purchased. It may look and drive nice, but who knows how long that'll last?

The 7.3L when maintained properly, will run 250,000 miles without a care in the world, but the trans won't, neither will the 4WD.
