V-10 without cat/ how much power?

If you guys feel better removing your cats, great. Without dyno tuning each modification, we don't really know what the effects are of each change made. Banks does this, and they are one source that says the restriction is insignificant. I don't have any faith in the ol 'butt' dyno.

I stand by my opinion on the value of this action.

Enjoy!

I would bet money that my dual exhaust set up gives me more HP and trq than a banks powerpack would.Sure they gonna say the restriction is minimal, how else would they sell their product, which is good dont get me wrong, they arent going to say "buy our products, but the cat is restrictive"They want you to think that the restriction is in the components that they replace, which is also true.I cant wait to replace the log manifolds on my truck.I would like to put Banks torque tubes on mine with my duals, but understand they wont sell just the headers,so i am looking @JBA ss shortys, which are a fine product.

DG,

You can buy just the Banks headers. Call Teresa at Diesel Injection services in PA. I forgot the name of the town. I will send you a PM tomorrow with the phone number. She quoted me $980.00 just for the torque tubes ( headers ). I would do the Borla's before the JBA's. Just my .02 worth.

How do you know that the freelance modifications done to your exhaust have accomplished the optimum increase in hp and tq? If you go overboard and reduce your back pressure too much, you will hurt the performance of the engine.

I'm not saying that Banks is ONLY way to get the best, free flowing, performance enhancing exhaust. It's certainly not the cheapest! I do believe their resources, experience and R+D probably put them ahead of somebody slapping pipes together and punching their cat.

Sometimes, we believe what we want, regardless of fact.

V-10 without cat/ how much power?

Dual exhaust on a V10 is better than single exhaust any day. I still have plenty of backpressure. All i know is i have a substantial power increase now.I have run no mufflerw/tailpipe, no muffler or tailpipe with just the cat, but the duals really awakened it.I dont want this to get heated but there is no way a single exhaust w/cat will out perform a dual set up with no cat, thats just common sense and im not saying you dont have any, its just i know what i have. I have a bunch more trq to go with it, i tow a very heavy boat and can really feel the difference. i plan on putting it on a dyno soon to see, but do not know what it would have been stock to compare to though.Like i said earlier i dont want to get in a heated discussion with you, we can agree to disagree, thats what is good about these forums.I look at it like this, if my truck came dual exhaust stock you could not convince me that putting single exhaust on would increase power.

wow this board is finally getting some action!!!

Daryl, your exhaust mod really inspires interest and I don't disagree with your thoughts on this concept. If you are able pls get your trk on the dyno. I for one would really like to hear the results. Headers (Borla or Banks) are in my future plans and I would consider your mod, or at least trying your mod, based on your dyno results. Thanks

You'll find no disagreement from me that 2-3" pipes will provide less restrictive flow than 1-3" pipe. My point is that making a mod without evidence of the improvement in performance that has been made, and saying "I now have a big power increase" is unreasonable. And that you (though not you) can make mistakes in doing things wrong.

Good luck with your further improvements.

V10KLZZ71S I have to disagree with you on your o2 statement. Im not saying that its bad for more air to flow but if you have a less restrictive cat more air will pass by the o2 faster and thus probably changing the air/fuel mixture. The o2 would definately input the eec. What the eec does beyond that Im really not sure. I have no clue what the A/F ratio on these truck is anyway. I would be nice if somone had some dyno experience but even so each vehicle is different

I plan on some dyno time very soon after I do a few mods. You know what would really free up some power and TQ would be underdrives and a electric fan. Less stress on the rotating assembly is what we need. If we wanted to get crazy an alum drivshafts would help as well. I bet if these 3 mods were done The truck should move out faster

That is the beauty of mass air, the eec will compensate for most changes in airflow, unless one gets drastic.I would assume my O2 sensors are working fine- no check engine light, no codes.
I did e-mail SUPERCHIPS on af ratio just yesterday so i will hopefully be hearing back.Hey forced 34795 what exhaust mods do you have? I saw where you list duals, true duals are cat back duals? I also want to put an electric fan and free up some HP.

V10KLSZ71S, Where are you looking at an electric fan? The only thing I've heard about is the Cyclone fan that works off an electric clutch.....and its pricey...$600 plus dollars. A truly electric fan I would consider......I guess.....unless its $600 too. Then, I'll just buy gas!!!!

JDM engineering has an electric fan using only FORD parts, i am still trying see if it will work on a V10 it says 5.4 which is the same as a V10, they have a special water pump to go with it.
