Factory keys with metal disk

When I bought my 56, it came with the factory keys. With the keys was a metal disk with some letters and numbers on it. Also on the disk it says "detach and record". What is it? thanks.

That is the key code that you could take back to a locksmith or Ford and get a replacement key made from code.

If the door and ignition locks use the same key, and the door lock hasn't been changed, then yes, it will still work.

The same codes are used for passenger cars.

Code prefixes: FA = Door and ignition / FB = Glovebox and trunk.

If the ignition key will not work in the door lock cylinder, one or both have been replaced.

Usually it's the ignition cylinder w/keys that is replaced first.

My code prefix is FE. I was told that the door and ignition were two different keys but I'm not really sure. My ignition key will go in the door lock but it doesn't unlock it.

1953/56: BAAA-8122050-A .. Door/Ignition Lock Set w/keys.

In the mid 1980's, FoMoCo vehicles used one type of key for the doors, another for the ignition. These were 10 cut keys and were the only FoMoCo vehicles that I recall that had this set-up.
