NP 435 to T-19, bolt for bolt?

86 F150 300ci I6, 4x4 shortbed. Current trans is shot NP-435 and looking to swap it with a T-19 if I can find one for that matter. What's the swap like, can it be done bolt for bolt?

this is an extension of a previous thread when I originally thought it was my rear differentials here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-concerns.html

T19's came behind 460's and diesels. The 4 bolts would bolt up to the bellhousing, but I am not sure about the splines on the tranny input shaft. Some of those setups had a larger input shaft, so it would take a different clutch disc. Not to say you could not find a different clutch disc and make it all work. Do some research on the Ford spline counts on the input shafts. You have the NP-435 like you have now, and the t-18 also as choices. That tranny you have now is considered a good one, so don't be afraid to get another. Your tranny has a granny gear 1st correct?

Yes, granny gear. I just opened the lid up and definitely missing some teeth off of a few gears. I've been looking for hours online and can't find either trans. I may end up just rebuilding but then I don't know where to get the gears from.

EDIT: Found some places online and a complete tear down, rebuild manual. Came from GM but still a manual for the NP435

These transmissions were used in many makes of trucks, but the basic assembly and rebuilding proceedures are the same.
The only real advantage the T19 has over the T18 or NP435 is first gear is isn't quite as steep, and is syncro'd, so it's a bit more user-freindly.

My truck is used as mostly a daily driver when I can't take my bike. So I'm looking to get her back together swiftly cheaper, not fastest and cheapest. I've also purchased an intake with 4 barrel already mounted (fellow Marine has an 83 that a tree fell on during hurricane and the motor was never fired up with the new assembly on so I got it now). If I can find another NP435 or another tranny that will just bolt in and go, then I don't mind but I have yet to find a JY online with one. Waiting till Monday to call around, or just rebuild this one myself and spend a little extra money and time for a rebuild. Being in the USMC, we have an Auto Hobby shop with any tools I need to barrow if I need to save money and not buy them.

Franklin.... THANK YOU.... also, teach me how you searched for those please. I was just googling the JY's in the area and pulling each website up and searching site by site.

The website Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market. You will find out that some of the junkyard's do not know what they really have, or what they say they have, but it will give you an idea of where to start and call. You can see on some of the listings it says "verify ID" of the tranny.

Am I'm supposed to be the computer guy.... Thank you alot. This will have to be a discussion with the ol' lady on what I am going to do financially wise. She may tell me to get another job, LOL. I will be posting again when I have decided what route I'm going to take and this way if this needs to carry on, it can wait till later.

Ok, that has to be the fastest decision my ol' lady has ever made. She says, REBUILD it. So if I run into a snag, I'll create a new thread as this one was meant for swapping out the trans. Thanks to all very much.

Just to eliminate confusion if you are making inquiries over this -

You mentioned in the earlier thread that your trans was a 4-speed overdrive.........if so, it's not an NP435.
The NP435 is a 4-speed but is direct, not overdrive, in 4th.

They have an aluminum lid, with a cast iron case.
http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/np435.htm

If it IS an o/d transmission, the likely reason it was noisy in all gears except 3rd, is that 3rd is direct drive, with no gears transmitting power - 1,2 & 4 are driving through (damaged) gears.

Ken,
I am somewhat confused here now. My trans looks exactly like the NP435, my door code says 'B' and I've read somewhere that that code means a Clark?? When ripping it apart last night, I have found the busted gears as shown below in the links. Per the NP435 diagram, this is my 2nd gear. Also to include, there was no gear oil in the bottom of this trans and I have no drain plug so there's a reason this happened I just don't know where all the oil ran off to. The fist link is what the trans looks like (to me a NP435), the last 5 are of the gears missing lots of teeth.

I'm not familiar with them, but I think that's a TOD, which is a light-duty 4-speed o/drive trans.
Definitely not an NP435

That first pic does appear as though it has an aluminum case, so you could be correct......

Anything in particular that I can take a picture of to help identify this trans? I really need to either rebuild or replace and I don't want to be ordering the incorrect parts or waste my time with a junk trans. And what is a TOD?
