Wanting to pull my 360 with automatic attached. Thinking about buying one of the cheap'o import cherry-pickers and engine stands on e-bay. Cherry picker is rated for 2 tons and engine stand for 1,000 pounds. Has anyone used these for FE engines?

 

The FE weighs about 750 lbs with all the accessories. The C6 weighs qite a bit but I'm not sure. Nowhere near 2,000lbs all together though so you should be fine. Unless you have a special aftermarket bellhousing you have a C6 not a C4. I know the books sometimes say different but that is wrong. The engine stand should also hold. Just be careful and let the weight down slowly.

 

Just an FYI. A 2 Ton Cherry Picker, is only rated for 1/2 ton with the boom extended. And you may need to be extended, depending on how you pull it.

I'm thinking the C6 is only about 200 lbs. I rememeber sliding it around and moving it without too much trouble to get it rebuilt.

 

I bought a cheepy 750lbs.rated engine stand for my FE motor.
It does the job, but barely and I don't trust it. I didn't realize the 360 was so heavy. I am used to (this is probably a dirty word in this forum)small block chevys and this ford weights a lot more.

 

Hey Rat, How is a C6 visually diffrent from a C4? Mine has the bell housing as part of the trans bolting directly to the engine (no separate bell housing). Can you or anyone please help me out with some of the other codes. 131 X F103 8 4 G 08

IF the bell is cast as one with the tranny's case then it is a C6 , the C4's bell can be removed

 

I don't think you're looking at a C4. They never came behind FE engines.

If it is a C4, somebody did some aftermarket mods/adapters to get there.



I've got a 1000lb engine stand , and I was still nervous with my 390 on there. FEs are pretty heavy.

 

FE's aren't THAT heavy, especially after you get the intake off they are barely more than a 351 Windsor. I believe you may also have a FMX behind your engine as another possibility
