What is the Best Stage 1 Setup

I have some basic mods done on my 2000 7.3L including a predator 60-100 H.P. programmer, 4" turbo back exhaust with a muffler delete, cold air intake, guages, etc. I have determined that I have forged rods. I have selected a Garrett GT38R turbo and a BD Diesel Cool It intercooler. I plan on some ARP head studs. What I am wrestling with is the injectors and HPOP. What would be best? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have no clue which set up is best

However, there is an interesting read on the PHP forum.
They used Casserly Stage 1 Singles (160cc/30%) on stock HPOP and Stock Turbo and got about 395 hp @ 2500 rpm with about 900 ft. lbs. of torque at the wheels. PMR rods.

Next step is going to be Stage 2 Singles(1600cc/100%), upgraded turbo and HPOP as necessary to get to the 600 hp mark.

Really? A 200hp increase just by swapping nozzles from 30% to 100%... All on PMR's...

The way I read the article is they got 395 hp with single shot 160cc/30% injectors and what they called "extreme" tune.

They actually did a few base line runs as well. First run on stock sticks and stock tune, another run on stock sticks with extreme tune and the third run with Stage 1 sticks and extreme tune. There is more coming on that test but they haven't gotten around to it just yet.

Sure thing. Here is the thread.
PHP's 2001 F-250 Build. Finally! - Power Hungry Performance Forum

Post #12 has some datalogs. I found it very interesting how changing the pulse width broadened the torque curve without a major hp penalty. A lot of the info is way over my head though....

I'm like you Greg alot of that stuff is way over my head too

kinda get the impression that Bill's 7.3 deal kinda took a backseat to that 6.0 he has been playing with at the dragstrip...lol He has that thing running 12 secs & has hardly done anything to it

There appears to be a LOT of power hidden inside the 6.0 liters. My dragstrip days are over though....nowadays I am interested in a keeping things simple and reliable while being able to tow anything I hook to it with comfort and control.

yeah, it's all good though. Let them have their fun. I don't blame them one bit....I used to be the same way. The way I see it, boys will be boys. I was no different when I was younger, my toys were just a bit different. These days the diesel truck is all that is left for true 'hot rodding'. Reminds me of the days when we all drove GTOs, Chevelles and Cudas and we swapped out parts every weekend to see if we can get that extra 10th on the dragstrip. We broke some stuff but we had a ball doing it.

I don't think mine will ever be over.

Been doing it for years and I don't see it slowing down, even at 46.

do yourself a favor and forget about the 38r and go with a t4i setup. an h2e or qssb or gqssb turbo is a much better turbo and you wont regret it. next is a good fuel system like a regulated return to get rid of the dead head. upgrade the hpop to something better than stock there are several out there just pick one. stage 1 single shots will be a very healthy increase in power and are perfect for a tow rig. a bts transmission never hurt anything either. head studs and valve springs are a good idea imo as well. i too have an upgraded i/c and its not a bad idea. after those main things there are a lot of little items to add to make the complete package but with those items youll be impressed.....

Greg you aren't kidding about the 6.0 my buddy just installed a Bully Dog system and that thing is fast. It ran good before but now it is like a raped ape
Thanks for posting the PHP post it was a good read. But so much of it went over my head. It was like trying to pour a 12oz beer into a shot glass. ( My brain hurts!!) Do you know what they meant by "PMR engine" ?
And I concur with your statement "My dragstrip days are over though....nowadays I am interested in a keeping things simple and reliable while being able to tow anything I hook to it with comfort and control." Back in the day when I was a young man and didn't have a family to feed it was all about SPEED !!! But them days are past me now but I still love to watch the young guys and guys with deep pockets. I guess I am just an old dog that likes staying on the porch.

PMR motor means a motor with Powdered Metal Rods rather than Forged Rods

Generally found in motors newer than 2001, but can be found in some earlier.
