Limited slip or not limited slip???

OK guys i've been tossing around the idea of getting a new SD with a 6.7PS. So occasionally i go to local dealers websites to see what they got in inventory and if they are doing anyway deals... Anyway i found this truck CLICK HERE The only thing im not sure about is the axle? Its says its a 3.55 "regular axle", does that mean its a non limited slip?... Usually it says "non-limited slip" or "electronic locking axle". I dont get why you would run a open diff. rear end on a 4x4 with the snowplow package

If it was an LS it would be like a 100+ charge. Some people complain about the limited slip not handling the way they like, but honestly I don't see they don't offer the e-locker across the board.

Limited slip isn't available on anything but the dual rear wheel trucks now. You can only get either the open rear axle or the electronic locking rear axle on the single rear wheel trucks. In the case of the truck you're looking at, it has the open rear differential. Not sure why they ordered it that way.

Does the electronic feature actually lock the axle or does it just apply brakes?

A 4x4 truck without posi is retarded. You could by a 4wd and only see 2 wheels spin??? its cheaper just to buy a 2wd

The electronic rear locking diff actually locks the axle. It works in 2WD or 4WD and is excellent. Mine has it and I've used it to back up a hill when the grass was wet at the local football field......worked flawlessly.

thanks guys that's what i figured (being open)... I don't know why you would order it like that with the snow plow package either, but that's kinda a deal breaker for me.

I don't know what the e-locker costs in the new trucks, but if you have the extra cash you could have a good LS installed, like a TruTrac. I had one installed recently and I love it. Much better than the factory LS that it came with. I didn't want a full blown locker, and I wanted something kind of "thoughtless" as far as its operation goes. Just something to think about. Might haggle with the dealer to install it if you buy it.

It not having a limited slip rear is more likely a safety/insurance issue now. A limited slip/locker rear can get an inexperienced driver in trouble(like going north or south bound on an east-west road) in a split second on slippery roads.
