I've run a few old wrecks years ago but nothing quite as bad as you mention. I did own a convertible and a Vett, both of which leaked from top down. A towel was SOP.

Good grief!! I thought my cab leaked bad. Yeah you definitely need a new cab. In the meantime, you might need this:

You should have seen me trying to drive through the absolute biggest rain storm of the summer with my 49 and its one single vacuum wiper about 3 months ago.

I was just thinking I wonder what it would be like to drive this old truck in a rain storm haha

dont think a restored truck is any better!!! cowl vents leak no matter what, windshields leak around the corners. I sealed my 52 twice and no luck!

Whew... I was a bit bashful to relay my own tale, but this brought out a grin to me and loosened the tongue. (Only too bashful to speak since I claimed about 3 times that I am almost "done")

I am just almost done (carpet, headliner, seat, belts, almost everything is in). I took it down to the corner and back to get it warmed up (radiator flush and fill)... and it was raining, no it was sleeting (Denver 2 weekends ago) miserably.

Front windshield leaked, rear windshield leaked, fender welting leaks so there is spray all down the doors. The rear end is so light it kept wanting to peel on the soft mud road. My truck was filthy in 2 miles. Wet, cold, new carpet wet, that headliner is made of cardboard... My warm up run set me back. All these things were "fine" when I parked it 8 years ago... these girls don't like to be ignored - they get vindictive.

Butyl rubber (ace/home depot/lowes)... You and I will be doing the same thing this weekend.
Comes in a caulking gun tube - what the glass shops use cause it sticks to the painted frame and sticks to glass both.

I've come to realize that you're right. That is why I am VERY hesitant to even consider carpet in my truck when it's done. The previous owners of my 50 F1 spread a layer of fiberglass over the entire front floorboard. But the typical leaks never got fixed. That water made its way under the carpet and the fiberglass and just ate the floor pans up. The bottom of my cab looked very solid and without rust. But the tops of my floor pans were rusted beyond belief.

I just recently removed my old cowl vent seal for paint striping/priming. It was old and hardened. No way it would seal properly.

Well, when I get my cab painted for my 51 (really close but the body man is worthless when it comes to communication) I will put carpet in it, but before I do I am sealing the living crap out of everything! I am really considering sealing the cowl vent shut. I really believe that there is no 51 or 52 cowl vent that does not leak. Period. Let me know if I am wrong and how to fix it, but I have tried many times with no luck.

I say this sort of in jest, but...I was thinking of a cowl vent cap, like a shower cap, that I could place over the vent and hold with magnents. I also considered useing the material you use for magnetic signs.

thank's guy's..the bondo/fiberglass/ concreat and chicken wire repairs add to the surprises this truck has..it run's fine..rumbles and creack's..the big chunk of floor with the glass fell out on the last speed bump ..with all the other spray I didn't notice the cowl vent leaking...I tink it is rusted shut....

I tried taping it off with masking tape once, but it was a downpour and when I would stop, it would run in along the gutter in the cowl then to the vent and on my feet!
