Replacing shocks & adding springs

Replacing shocks & adding springs
How do I know whether it is time to replace shocks or if I should add overload springs.
I have a 99 F-350 with 130, 000 miles 4x2 that I tow a 5th wheel with. I'm right about the 10,000 lb GVWR for the truck when loaded and have weighed a few different times on Cat Scales. If I hit a bad piece of pavement or hole I get a banging sound like it bottoms out. I don't know if that is normal or something I should address.

To test your shocks go the to back of your truck, climb on the bumper and jump up and down. Then STOP! Look at you, you look like a fool.
Just kidding, pay attention to how quickly the truck stops bouncing. Good shocks will stop bouncing in 1-2 bounces. Ok shocks 2-3. 3+ means its time to replace.

Check the bump stops to see if you are bottoming out. Also Just a FYI if you need overload springs, I have a set outback that you can have... They are the ones from supersprings. You just got to come and get em. Anyways, If you are at or neer your load limit, and tow regularly, then you should deff get something.
