okay i'm a moron i'll be the first to admit it, but where is the casting # supposed to be on the head of a 300 L6 (early 90's)???? help please!

have been finally found some # on the head OJ1C on one end and 87 on the other....problem is i cant find these as casting #'s on any of the lists for the motor

Are you sure that the O is not really a G...G being year's 2000 thru 2009... maybe head was replaced...scratch that idea, I see they only went to 96, unless you live in Aus

do i have the right numbers?? where should they be on the head? the numbers OJ1C (C or G) are on a metal tag held on with 2 screws on the head to the rear? of the last set of springs...

They may have changed things over the years. Use to be that the numbers were cast into the head, no metal tag...Now the first 2 letter and number always indicated the era and the year, example C9VE first 2 impressions means 1969...As a further example D9VE would mean 1979, E4AJ means 1984

thats what i thought but i haven't been able to find any numbers cast into the head. any idea where the should be on a 6? i've been looking online and haven't found didly. mabye i'm just getting to old for google, i used to be able to find anything i wanted now not so much:-/
Scratch the metal tag and see if it shines like its brass or something...you may just be looking at a cast mark, that includes the screw impression's, which was normal.

You already found it, the spot with the screw head impression's...I think you need to clean that spot real good, so as to read the letters/numbers.
Nope, the number is not found under the cover, your 3rd image shows the day & month of casting...look around on the head outside of the cover area...I'll try and post an example
