F3 Axle Housing Wanted

I am in the process of acquiring the parts to build an old school Franklin quick change. I have one ring side axle housing and I need a second. I live in Jonesboro, AR and frequently travel to Memphis and Little Rock. Will be traveling to the Dallas area next month. I have some F3 chassis parts and I am willing to work a trade. If you can help please send me an email or PM

Thanks for looking!!

Something to be aware of, these axles are not all alike. The earliest ones, up to mid year 1951, were narrower than the late 1951 and 1952 axles. If you check the chassis parts manual you'll see that they have different part numbers. The reason relates to Ford's change of the braking system in mid '51. They went with Bendix brakes and moved the parking brake to the transmission. You'll want to make sure that you have axle shafts that match the housings you come up with. I junked one of these a few weeks ago. But you shouldn't have any trouble finding one locally. Stu

Thanks for the info. Noticed the narrow housing when I disassembled the rear end. It came with 14" non-self energizing brakes. Must have required a lot of leg when braking to a stop with a maxed out load.

I have access to a lot of fabricating talent and grafting on an extension is not a big problem. The plan calls for 9" Ford type brake flanges and brakes. So some axle tube work is required anyway.

A greater concern is the spline count. I was planning to use the F3 ring carrier as well. But I am not sure I can get custom 12 spline 9" Ford axles from the after market. Something to check.

Can anyone tell me what the spline count is in a F2 axle?

Please keep me in mind. I am in no big hurry with this. Have you tried Meb Gregg's Auto Salvage in Jonesboro? He has a lot of stuff from that era.

Thanks! The axle looks right. A little far to go and fetch. But I will make the call.

The 14" drums are the easiest way to identify the early axles. The later ones have 12" drums. Stu

Do any of these axle being made available have the 4.11 ratio? Also, the 3/4 ton axles are the same housings, but with 12 inch brakes.
