Looking for clues "at the scene of the crime, life's been good to me..."

Stumbled onto this site after HOURS of sifting through the internet for info (very little found)...
Found a truck model I've wanted since I was a teen, and now I'm in the process of cleaning it up, and fixing a lot of little things...looking for any help to tell me about some of her elements...
First...VIN...R90RVHK1600
manufactured in 4-1980
TYPE-GVW: R906 (??)
GVWR: 28,000
130 WB
TRANS: FJ (F correct? Can't make it plainly out)
AXLE: 9AP (??)
DSO: 222053 (???)

These numbers were from the door frame tag.

I know it has a Detroit in 'er, but not sure which...will search out more numbers from the block during daylight and post...

Tranny is five speeds with a Hi-lo splitter.

Single axle

Would love to find documents on wiring as I've stumbled my way through several slight repairs without...and any mechanical info one can suggest would be helpful I know. I've found fuse blocks on passenger side dash that are not used, and some don't make sense to me...throttle and ether cables not hooked up and not exactly sure how they link up, but I do seem the correct areas...

Thanks for any guidance folks.

Tim

Welcome aboard, Tim

You'll get some answers to your questions in a little bit, some of the regulars don't come on every day, but they usually check in every two days at least.

Yikes! Seems like parts for this truck and others like it have dropped off the face of the earth!

Thought I'd share some of my findings and workings thus far...
Spent a couple of days trying to track down why the fuel gauge did not work. It was sitting at the very bottom of the "E" range when I started...Not knowing much I started from the beginning and traced down all wiring with meter for continuity, then pulled sending unit from tank and tested it...yep...resistance through the range, so I thought ok...back to cab again, and was confused why I could not find power coming to it..finally found a circuit breaker laying in panel when I dropped the fuse panel cover on passenger side...there was an empty slot if I remember right labeled "fuel gauge" so what the heck..I put the breaker in there..scared me a bit, as the gauge jumped to the max "F" zone and the sound of it clicking jolted me a bit until I realized what had happened..then...all I was now getting was constant "F" reading...odd to me that I was getting anything without key having to be on...
Happened to take gauge with me to local Oreilly store around the corner, and my man Phil--who seems to know just about anything I need to learn about--listened and looked..then told me to insulate the "other" wiring pin...It had one so I didn't think anything about another...went back home, put in an insulator on the other pin, hooked it up, and voila! it's working...
One case solved..many more to go...

Now found out the doghouse comes out, so out it came, and the nasty floor was scraped (about ten shovelfuls of dirt and grime and such)...going to insulate the floor, and add a bit of new carpet. Got a good deal on another piece so I'll do the door panels with it...
Actually I was trying to figure out how to get to the back of the motor to track down the tach cable...wow! Removing that cover allowed me to get right at it, and now I have found why it didn't work..broken cable right about the middle of it...seems this setup goes from the motor up to a connector thru the firewall, then another cable into the tach itself...
Now, to find a replacement cable....

Also looking for clues on how the throttle cable and ether cables hook up...I see where the general area is for the throttle, but can't figure out the exact hookup...and no clue at all about the ether cable thing...

Pulled out some rough water hoses and trying to replace them...trying to figure out how to get those little pieces that are hooked up to some unit just behind the fuel filters on the passenger side front...

I'm thinking so far that this might be a 6v-71T from what I've been able to see in other pictures and info from the net...

Try helminc.com for owners/shop manuals and etc. Or faxonautolit.com

When I was a teenager, I wanted a Duesenberg SJ Murphy Roadster. Couldn't afford one then, (when they were relatively cheap-roughly 3,000 bucks).

Definitely cannot afford one now (over 5 million bucks).

The new toy (or anchor around my neck..haha)

Thanks for all the great info so far...making a little success at repairing small things, and discovering other ailments...haha..for instance, when I drove 'er back after purchase, I stopped at a truck stop to repair some lights and a wiper blade (yep, it just HAD to start drizzling), and after leaving there, just before getting to the interstate, noticed the headlights weren't working! Yikes! Pulled over quickly and tried to assess...luckily in a few seconds they came on, and from then on it was an uneventful trip back to her new home. Yesterday I discovered now the lights did not work at all! So I tracked down all the wiring and all seemed to be ok, then figured it just had to be the switch, so out it came...did some trial and error on the harness and all worked fine. So now I've replaced it with toggles for the headlights, taillights, and dome. Already had a dimmer on dash and it works still, so didn't lose anything there...

Met a couple of great gentlemen here in Chattanooga at the Choo Choo Express Bus Service garage...owner Don Bowen is such a great fellow, and full of knowledge, as is his mechanic Joel. They welcomed me in with open arms and were glad to show and teach me things to preserve this old girl...

I'm dismayed at the lack of info or pics of things on the net I'm involved in, so I'm going to post my own, so that it might help others along the way...

Here's the girl just as I bought her standing proud...more to come later tonight...

Again, any info you folks can send my way would be wonderful, and I'm sure a timesaver when it comes to repairs and such...

Tim

Oops..now to figure out how to get a picture on here..

Until I get a better handle on the pics...best I could do was add one to "my gallery"...
